NES Arkanoid only has 36 Stages...WTF??...

Post by dave4shmups »

I thought this game had 100 stages-at least the arcade and old Mac Plus revs. do- but I just watched a speed-run video of someone playing this game

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query ... data/title

and the game ended after only 36 stages! Was he playing some kind of "special" mode, or does NES Arkanoid really only have 36 stages?

And I thought Arkanoid had just 32 stages.. ?

I think the sequel has more stages, but the 1st one does not have more than 36 stages for sure, the last stage being a fight against DoH

I was just surprised, because I had this game on my old Mac Plus, and that version, like the arcade, had 100 levels-the 100th being the boss fight against Doh.

I thought the arcade version had 30-something as well.

Yeah, I thought that the original had 30 something stages too. BTW, the home computer versions of the original Arkanoid had expansion packs for extra levels.

Arkanoid Returns (on Taito F3 cart and PS) is the one that's got a hundred levels. All the other versions end in 32 IIRC.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I recall the SNES version cycled after 32 [33 being that irritating boss], then again at 65 [66], then after 99 it actually ended the game.

Of course, I had to emulate it and use save states to get that far to tell :? I = SUCK

Bah, don't be so hard on yourself, that's one tough game! But it's also my fav. in the series.

Wow, I didn't know that the arcade version only had 30-some stages., I guess the old Mac Plus port must have had some kind of expansion pack, because I'm positive that you didn't even get to fight Doh until the 99th or 100th stage.

I REALLY wish Taito would include Arkanoid 1 and 2 on their collections-maybe they have; I'll have to go and check it out.
