Hyper Duel in SSF

Post by esreveR »

Hey all, I've finally gotten SSF to work, but I've kind of run into an issue. Most games work fine and all, but I'm trying to play Hyper Duel (Because of the OOH! shiny graphics in Saturn mode), and for starters, the background music music and sound test don't work (I see a "CAUTION: <zomg crazy moonspeak runes!>" under sound test, but what it means is beyond me), and then there's the issue of stage progression.

For some reason whenever I complete the first stage in Saturn or Arcade mode, the thing gives me the typical bonus thing and stuff, but after that it's just an endless looping star background and no, you know, action, and I know stage two doesn't go like that. I mean, I've played this game in an actual arcade. I'd know. As much as it would be good for scoring. Wait, no, you'd have to end it somehow. Damn.

But what's so weird is that while most emulation sites don't mention a word about this issue, and everyone goes about pretending the game works 100% fine, despite the fact I have never even seen emulated screenshots of anything past Stage 1 (Which implies people simply don't know about this issue, as outlandish as it seems). It's really bugging me. And I've downloaded the ISO off the only three sites I could find it on, one of them didn't load altogether and the other two have this issue.

As for what I'm running, I'm using SSF 011 Alpha R5. And I'm running it on an Alienware, so I'm pretty darn sure it's not an issue with my computer. Using an ISO because I...uh, have the arcade machine only (It counts, right? I mean, MS Anthology was legit. Come on). I've tried fiddling with just about everything I know about it and no results, so I ask you if there's anything you know about what to do with this.

tl;dr: Hyper Duel refusing to work in SSF. No music and no stage progression. Halp.

The most basic thing is all I can offer: Are you using the correct region BIOS? Otherwise, yeah, it's as you say, people tend not to play these games enough to know about such problems so perhaps you might bring it to the attention of the emulator author (who speaks Japanese, however).

No music is because its redbook audio on the CD, so the ISO you have needs to have the original WAV files (not the MP3 versions compressed to save space) as well as the CUE file setup correctly to point to the wav files.

As for your other problem, sounds like maybe a SSF version issue. I know the latest version doesn't work at all for me, but the previous one works fine.

I'm using that version 101 BIOS or whatever and I've set the region to Japan. I'm pretty sure that's right. I'd be amazed if people didn't realize this issue existed by now, but by the looks of it, it seems entirely possible.

Ah, thanks for the music info. As for the SSF version, however, I've tried using version 010 but it actually works even worse there, what with disappearing menus and things. Should I use an even earlier build?

Oh yeah, and someone mentioned using torrents to get a different .ISO. Torrents freak me out, man...they lag your PC and download viruses and shit. Who the hell wants that?

The one time I used a torrent it did.

I used Limewire, if that means anything.

What should I use, then? This stuff gets very confusing you know.

...And why the hell does Limewire exist if...oh, nevermind, I just want to play Hyper Duel ;_;
