A little news on SNK Classics Collection-ANOTHER UPDATE....
So, I emailed SNK-PLAYMORE USA yesterday, asking whether or not this compilation will every see the light of day. Here's their answer:
"We will develop for PS2 after PS3 arrives and when SCEA relaxes it's
attitude towards our games. I can not promise which games but they
will
come.
www.SNKPLAYMOREUSA.com"
I just replyed to this email asking if they have any plans to develop this for any other consoles, so we'll see what they say.

i predict that the ps3s release will bring many more shmups to the ps2. the same as witht he ps1, with th console becoming outdated but still hugely installed in homes, there is the potential for cheap impulse buys.
the great reason why strikers 1945 part 2 is available for about 3 quid in most places
methinks we'll be seeing a hell of a lot of more compilations

Hopefully such future ports will be decent quality though...in the past that hasn't always been the case.sjewkestheloon wrote:i predict that the ps3s release will bring many more shmups to the ps2. the same as witht he ps1, with th console becoming outdated but still hugely installed in homes, there is the potential for cheap impulse buys.

Exactly Nemo; I mean this email REALLY begs the question of WHY SNK is even waiting on Sony anymore, instead of just releasing this on the XBOX, where it would most certainly be accepted.Nemo wrote:I feel a little sorry for SNK, but when you deal with the devil you're going to get burned. If they would just focus their games on the Xbox and GC, we would all dance.
I'm no business expert, but that certainly seems like the logical thing to do!

Probably because of the low installed base of the Xbox in Japan, which is where the SNK collection would actually sell decently.dave4shmups wrote: Exactly Nemo; I mean this email REALLY begs the question of WHY SNK is even waiting on Sony anymore, instead of just releasing this on the XBOX, where it would most certainly be accepted.

Good point about the XBOX's low base in Japan-but still, there are a LOT of gamers over here, myself included, that would love to see a collection that included arcade ports of some Neo Geo shmups.Acid King wrote:Probably because of the low installed base of the Xbox in Japan, which is where the SNK collection would actually sell decently.dave4shmups wrote: Exactly Nemo; I mean this email REALLY begs the question of WHY SNK is even waiting on Sony anymore, instead of just releasing this on the XBOX, where it would most certainly be accepted.

Exactly, why do they keep trying to deal more and more exclusively with Sony? They have had nothing but good treatment dealing with MS on XBox ports, why not just try them as their first route? And yeah, gimmie some Cube lovin.'Nemo wrote:I feel a little sorry for SNK, but when you deal with the devil you're going to get burned. Granted porting the collection to Xbox primarily for the NA market would take more money and effort than simply bringing the PS2 version to the US. But the way I see it, if they were to make X (net amount) off the PS2 port in the US, and would make half of X off an Xbox port, half of X is still better than nothing by never being able to release the PS2 version. It's so ridiculous when companies like Working Designs and SNK-Playmore complain about SCEA's policies, yet they let it and SCEA run their companies instead of them running themselves.Acid King wrote:Probably because of the low installed base of the Xbox in Japan, which is where the SNK collection would actually sell decently.dave4shmups wrote: Exactly Nemo; I mean this email REALLY begs the question of WHY SNK is even waiting on Sony anymore, instead of just releasing this on the XBOX, where it would most certainly be accepted.

There has not been a single SNK game on a Nintendo console since the SNES. I don't think they're going to change their minds now.Dylan1CC wrote:And yeah, gimmie some Cube lovin.'Nemo wrote:I feel a little sorry for SNK, but when you deal with the devil you're going to get burned. The Captain.
It technically isn't a console, but the GBA does have Metal Slug Advance, two KoF games, and is getting a port of the first Metal Slug. There's also Capcom vs. SNK 2 for the GameCube, but that doesn't count since it's more Capcom than SNK.Capt. Takehiko wrote:There has not been a single SNK game on a Nintendo console since the SNES. Exactly why I said Capcom vs. SNK is more Capcom than SNK. GBA may not be a console, but it is a Nintendo system supported by SNK, so I think it's definatly not worth avoiding mention of it.Capt. Takehiko wrote:Yes GBA doesn't count. CvS 2 was developed by Capcom. Hence Capcom coming first in the title.

Well said Nemo. These companies DO need to start running themselves, and go with Console-makers that will take their products. Honestly, this makes the Cave-Arika spat look reasonable.Nemo wrote:Granted porting the collection to Xbox primarily for the NA market would take more money and effort than simply bringing the PS2 version to the US. Yeah but besides Pac man there wasn't a single Namco title on a Nintendo system from post-NES until the Cube. I'm just sayin,' they would have a much easier time getting their stuff on the Cube and I don't see why it's so unheard of, Capcom vs SNK had a GC rev. Cube has all kinds of 2D lovin, Ikaruga, Alien Hominid, Chaos Field, Shiki to name but a few. It's a much better 2D console than the '64 and SNK-Playmore could do a lot worse as an additonal console to port on.Capt. You forgot about Suzuka 8-hours, Libble Rabble, Xandra, and Cosmo Gang on SNES. Namco also made some non Pac-Man GB games post NES too. There is also Mr. Driller on GBC.Dylan1CC wrote:Yeah but besides Pac man there wasn't a single Namco title on a Nintendo system from post-NES until the Cube. Well, I just sent SNK an email today asking them why they don't just port over SNK Classics Collection to the XBOX, or the 360, given how friendly Microsoft has been to their games.
Here was their answer:
"MS does not have an inexpensive royalty band. They do not allow us to
market games for $19.99 based on the costs they charge. It is a
vicious
circle."

Maybe they should port it to Gamecube instead. It's doing better in Japan than the Xbox is, IIRC and besides, it'll be a more welcome addition to its library than Xbox, IMO.dave4shmups wrote:Well, I just sent SNK an email today asking them why they don't just port over SNK Classics Collection to the XBOX, or the 360, given how friendly Microsoft has been to their games.

That's a good idea, but SNK seems content to keep their heads stuck firmly up their arses.
I'm tired of waiting for this collection, and for SNK to use some common sense. When I get my NES, I'm just gonna get some SNK ports on that platform rather then wait for those morons to quit beating a dead horse.
