Egret II monitor problems
Egret II monitor problems
I got a question. My Egret II monitor is light and washed out sometimes and other times it's very vibrant and dark. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it either. I've adjusted the controls up and down, but I can't get it consistent. There are also lines running up and down when it's displaying text on a black background. Anything I can do to clear this thing up?

Re: Egret II monitor problems
the washed out problem you are mentioning sounds to me like a power supply thing... have you tried measuring while it is displaying the problem to see if the voltage is low? And adversely doing the same when it seems to be displaying normally? I had an astro city that was washed out but it would warm up after awhile-- bought a new PSU and it took care of the problem.
Try to take some pics of the line problem you mentioned as well if you can.

Well now the monitor is turning itself off and leaving the rest of the cabinet on. Then when I power the cabinet down, after a minute or so I can hear it make a sound like it's turning off again and then it will start back up with the cabinet for awhile. Is this thing about to bite the dust completely?

Can someone explain to me how to measure the voltage with a volt meter while the PCB is running? Thanks.

Re: Egret II monitor problems
hey man
you will need to set the multimeter to the 20v setting first of all. Then place the black/ground probe on the ground pin of the PCB's jamma edge connector under load/while powered on and the red probe on the respective pin you are trying to read on the PCB's jamma edge connector.... 5v, 12v.
Always as a rule you set the multimeter to the higher setting then what you are actually measuring to avoid overloading the meter and damaging it. For instance, you would not want to set it to the 2v setting if you were measuring something that is 5v.
Hope that makes sense.

also, not sure exactly what your monitor is doing without being there. Forum member grantspain is the monitor guru and he is always a really gracious guy about people bothering him with questions. You might give him a shout and see if he has any information he would willing to help you out with.
Re: Egret II monitor problems
I started out as the monitor getting very washed out. No matter how much I cranked up the contrast and colors, it was still very faded out. Yet if I left it on for a long time, sometimes it would get dark and vibrant again for awhile before returning back to it's washed out state. I've adjusted every control on the monitor and the remote monitor panel to no avail. I even cranked up the RED to the point that it shut off my monitor completely. I have no idea what it could be. I'll check it with the multimeter later today and see what it says. I've tried both the Gunbird II and Espgaluda II boards and they're both doing the same thing.

Sounds like bad caps to me. http://www.giz10p.co.uk/ does repairs on MS9 chassis if I'm not mistaken.corbie wrote:I started out as the monitor getting very washed out. its the big cap on the neck card....cant recall the values
this is almost always the culprit with the 'faded/washed out' issue
