Close Encounter

Post by DISRUPTOR18 »

Hello i am new to the development of shooter games. I am not very good at doing things by myself when it comes to games.
I can however produce all the graphic files needed. I am requesting some help with this. If you know about game development and are interested in what i am doing i would be ever so great full for the assistance.
Here is a picture of my vision for close encounter.
It is rather graphic so there is a warning.

I don't know what you were smoking when you came up with this, but unless you find someone who's a huge freaky sexual deviant and also a game programmer looking for an artist, I doubt you'll have much luck here.

Unofficial Shmup Glossary wrote:Hitbox: (also Collision Detection, Hit Detection, Hit Area)
1) The specific area within a shmup’s onscreen craft which will register as a “hit” when a shot or other onscreen obstacle touches it. In some shmups the hitbox is (or can be made) separately visible from the rest of the craft, while in others the player must rely on experience to know where it is. The term can refer to such areas as they exist within enemy craft, but almost always refers to the player craft.

2) The specific area within a visible shot, usually near the center, which will register as a hit if it touches a craft’s hitbox. In most shmups a shot’s entire onscreen image serves as its hitbox, but in some, especially certain manic shmups, the edge of a shot can overlap a craft’s hitbox and it can still escape without being damaged or destroyed.

For both of the above definitions, it’s worth noting that, despite the name, the hitbox does not have to be a perfectly square “box” shape (though it often is); in many cases it is rectangular, circular, or some other kind of shape altogether.
No offense but you should definetely study more about shoot'em ups, just so that you'll understand principles - like this one - better.

I have been playing Shoot em ups since i was a child on the sega genesis so i do not need to study shoot em ups. And i did have a feeling that was what it was. I have done work on old side scrolling beat em ups that use the same sort of principle so.
Listen i just had an idea for a game and wanted to actually do something. At least i am not like these people that make threads full off text about a game they want to make and do nothing to make it happen. At least i am trying see.

Every object in that screenshot is made in completely different style. Sorry, but browsing images.google.com and "produce all the graphic files needed" isn't the same thing.

Okay, show me any of those models with different lighting (or as a wireframe), and I'll apologize. Deal?

OK, sorry, my bad :)

The difference between high quality boss model and simple player model really made it look like they're from different source. Again, sorry.

Not a problem but i take my work very serious. And it is quite hurtful when someone accuses me off just using what is basically stock for my work.
Maybe you can understand why?

Perhaps checking out shmups POST the Sega Genesis era would be helpful? But it does sound like you already know EVERYTHING.

Perhaps you should not put word in my mouth. And maybe i shouldn't. Maybe i don't want to make space invaders, ever thought of that?
Maybe i have a life and am not addicted to shoot em up games? Maybe i play newer games?
I played shoot em ups casually when i was younger and still play some in my adult life so no i do not need to study or play anything else. I know how a shoot em up plays as i have played enough of them. I just prefer newer ones (Shoot1up on 360 indie games is a good one)
So don't come in here giving me cocky little lectures because i am not interested.

This depraved spectacle will stop right now!

OK, now let's start again.
You want to make a shooter. You can make sprites. You need assistance.

What kind of assistance. Are you looking for a programmer? Are you trying to start with programming? You can program, and are just looking for some hints about gameplay?

I am looking for either a programmer or someone that knows their way around a game engine capable of pulling it off. I apologize for all of this but if you care to look i only respond in the negative to those who insult me or don't bother to ask these questions before they start trouble.
On second thoughts just give me some ideas and i will figure out a way to do it. I am not here to cause trouble.

Alright. If you're looking for a programmer, everyone is too busy with his own game. If you're looking for a game engine capable of pulling off graphics like that, pretty much anything can do it, as long as you want to use prerendered sprites and not real 3D.

Can you recommend something before this gets scrapped?

Yeah sure, just use Game Maker. For sprite based game it's more than enough, and it's easiest possible way to make a shmup. Also, almost everyone here knows how to use it, so you have high chance of getting an answer if you have problem with something.

Hmmm i have GM8 but i don't like it very much. Maybe there is an alternative? If not i guess i will have to get used to using it.
