Famicom AV Modification

Post by Sparky »

I should be receiving a Famicom soon and would rather not use the RF connector for video so I'm looking at taking the composite video from the inside. I planned on using the schematic and guide from this website.

In the guide they use a 2SC1815 transistor which I wondered if it could be replaced with a different but similar component. I'm just being impatient and don't want to order the 2SC1815 online and wait so if a general substitute is available I would like to go that route.

I would like to know if anyone has done a similar modification and what their experience was as well.

Thanks,
David

I don't remember the analysis for that topology off the top of my head and can't read Japanese, but from the datasheet there doesn't seem to be anything too exciting about that transistor. If you're feeling adventurous, you could try a 2N3904 or similar (i.e. generic small-signal NPN bipolar transistor). Depending on the topology the resistors might need to be tweaked to get the desired gain.
