RGB cable help - DB15 to DB9

Post by angrycoder »

I've got one of the superguns that Matt made ages ago. It has a 15 pin female RGB connector. I want to connect this to a Commodore 1084s with a 9 pin RGB female connector.

Is there a cable out there that will do this? Or am I going to get need to find a DB15 male cable and a DB9 male cable and splice them together?

You'd have to make a custom RGB cable yourself or get someone else to make one for you. Yeah, I've got a Matt Ross custom made Supergun myself...awesome superugun styling with all the bells and whistles. I use my trusty Amiga 1080 RGB monitor with it & it works like a charm.

When you bought one of Matt's superguns, did it come with the instruction manual? In it, it has the pinout of the DB-15 RGB output...which is very handy to have if you're going to make a custom RGB cable setup.

Yes, I have the manual with the pinouts. Did you make your own cable or have someone do it for you?

I have experience hacking cables for the 1084s. I got tired of making them for each system, so I ended up just hacking an SCART switch box to go to the DB9 port on the 1084s. That way I can just buy standard SCART cables and plug them into the switch box.

I'll have to get out the old soldering iron and electrical tape and get to hacking on Monday, Ketsui is on its way!

Yeah, I had to make my own custom cable with the 1080 monitor. Had to ask around to see what the 1080's RGB pinout was like though. It, too, has an DB-9 input for RGB.
