I just did my very first shmup 1cc!!!

Post by iatneH »

I've been playing shmups on and off for about two years... first of all I don't think I have that much skill to begin with, secondly I hardly have time to practice much...

Anyway, I finally did my first one-credit today! I'm so proud! Even though it was only Elemental Master on my Genesis, I'm sure a lot of you will say it's a freaking easy game (and it must be if even I can beat it)...

But at least this gives me a big confidence boost to try something more advanced :)

Elemental Master is a fair challenge...I would never say that its "easy". You did play on normal defaults though, right?
Anyway, with some pattern memorization and decent dodge-a-bility, it can be done without too much of a fuss.
Still, far easier than the newer modern manics!

Congrats to you. :)

And just as a quick suggestion to anyone looking for their first 1CC, I'd suggest Space Megaforce/Super Aleste for the SNES...on Normal difficulty even I can 1CC it. It's about the only one I can, heh heh.

Oh yeah, congrats. That's a great feeling. Ah, I remember my first time...I was so young, so inexperienced...luckily, TFV was a gentle lover and after we had "gone all the way" I felt like climbing the rooftops and shouting out "I'm the king of the world!"

I did Gradius 1 on the Saturn. First loop only though. I was pissed it went round again, I wanted some gigantic firework display or something :D

Gradius 2 ate me alive

Congrats! My first 1cc was Twin Cobra..and my most recent was the first loop of Sengoku Blade. I think one of the craziest superplays has to be that Dragon Blaze one with the 2-loop no hit no bomb clear. My next 1cc is hopefully going to be Ketsui or Blazing Star. Keep up the good work!

I have only made it to that level once, and I had to put down the controller and force myself not to stomp it out of frustration.

Congrats! If you want to raise your 1cc percentage fast, I suggest Super Aleste... I came close to do that with one life.

Gun Nac is another one "gentle lover" as Ghegs put it

There are gentle lovers...then there are total sluts that give it up on the first date.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Twitch, if you're referring to "The Wall" attack (the one with the cross-up green lasers), the safe spot is in the lower right corner of the screen, beneath the boss.

Is it true that the difficulty level of the US version of Elemental Master has been toned down a bit from the Japanese one?

I'm still after my first 1cc, I'm wanting to make it a saturn game. Any suggestions for what I should go for? Is it worthing trying to 1cc a game on easier dificulty modes first or does that only get you used to the easier bullet patterns etc and put you at a disadvantage on normal?

What the..? I thought this topic was dead, haha...

...I still haven't 1CC'ed anything else since making this topic :(

MovingTarget, you might want to give Blast Wind a try.
I got up to the end of stage 3 on my first try (don't laugh..!)
But then after that I couldn't make it past stage 2...

Thats the same with me, the very first time I play a game I normally get further than I do on the next 5 times

blast wind looks fun... is it just me or does videogameimports always push their prices to the absolute limit?

I've heard this, but I have both versions and I didn't notice any difference on default, perhaps extreme is harder. I should do some more research. I'll say one thing though, the last time I played the JP version the music sounded a lot better than what I remembered in the US version.

Try for Thunderforce 3. The amount of lives it gives you is obscene, over 20 stocked if you 1LC it.
