Any games set in the 1950's?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

I've been in the mood to play another game set in the 50's after putting some time into Destroy All Humans. I know Fallout is but that isn't my type of stratigy game. So besides Fallout are there others? I have not seen a fast talking man with high pants treating his house wife like a second class citizen for some time.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Fallout 3 is much more of an action-RPG than anything else, and it's pretty much the only thing that comes to mind... I'm interested in hearing about more games with this aesthetic too

I think Stubbs the Zombie takes place during the 50's.

I was going to mention Crimson Skies, but found out that it actually takes place in the 1930s.

Probably not what you're looking for, but the Korean War inspired a few games.

It's just one level, but I couldn't help but mention the "Milkman Conspiracy" level in Psychonauts.

The Godfather for PS2? It's like GTA in the 50's.

Part of Mafia is set in the 50s, as is at least part of the backstory of the Command & Conquer series (though that goes back to what, 1800 BC?)

I forgot about Godfather! The wii version is well worth checking out too, it was one of the early games that really used motion controls well, I felt it benefited greatly from them.

I cannot let Fallout be dismissed like this. I do not talk about the third episode, but about Fallout 1 and 2. If you did try those and did not like them, then it is just fine (although who might not like a game where you can actually shoot a rat in the groin). But if you did not or could not finish the first cave with those annoying rats (try the groins again), I definitely recommend you to give them another chance. Fallout is the game : set in the 2000+ years, but still in the 50's due to nuclear burst, gives you a total liberty on your choices and actions (dont make too much fun of those fat green guys in stuffy armors though...) and full of the more sarcastic talk you'll ever encounter in a video game (you might even become yourself that high pants man mistreating his wife).

Well, sorry for the long Fallout advertisment, but I do like the game.

Anyway, beside of it, I also recommend Bioshock. Set just in 1960, in a submarine city gone crazy. FPS style, you roam the place full of strange creature, most are bad, some are quite good, some choices are given, and lots and lots of old style ads cover the walls or are heard in the radio :
-Oxford Club cigarets : for the people with style 8)
-My Father's stronger than Hercules and smarter then Einstein, he throws fire with a fingersnap. Are you as strong as my father ? Smarty daddy always visit the garden.
Bravo jolie Ln, tu as trouvé : l'armée de l'air c'est là où on peut te tenir par la main.
