Classic Games Done Quick: A charity marathon on SDA

Post by Breakdown »

Just wanted to let the shmuppers know that SDA will be hosting a 2 day charity marathon starting at 6 PM (EST) on January 1st. We'll be playing through 72 classic 8 and 16 bit video games and collecting donations for CARE. You guys should check it out!

The stream will be hosted on the SDA main page http://speeddemosarchive.com (as of this posting it's not embedded yet, but will be before we go live).

And if you want to view a fulls schedule of what we're playing and other information go to http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon

Hope to see some of you there.

Looks like this will be a real endurance test for some of the players and/or commentators. Best of luck.

Absolutely awesome so far, enjoying it a lot.
It's interesting to put faces to some forum members that are also active here and of course to watch some very skilled guys doing some live speedruns.

Zelda 1 starting now!

no but there is a schedule somewhere on the site, Joel was here yesterday for the UFC and he showed me some of it, at the time it was mostly a couple of pasty looking guys playing thru sonic and donkey kong games which was boring as hell but there were a few interesting games on there.. worth checking out for the effort atleast, props to the attendees.

Freddy played a lot of games. I especially liked his Contra performance. He literally ripped his shirt off! He got super unlucky on Metroid though...
Our fellow Garegga player, Vorpal, also had a brief appearance with Super metroid, fantastic time.

Here's the schedule

A pity I missed a lot of highlights, but apparently all the runs from the marathon are captured and will be released later on.

I really hate to disabuse you of that notion, since he has some awesome scores, but... yeah. Thanks though!

Many thanks to all of the shmups.com members who watched our marathon. We managed to raise over 10,000 dollars for CARE. You can catch the gameplay and commentary recorded here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon/schedule.html

Not all of the videos have been encoded yet because it takes a while to sync the game and commentary audio.

Plasmo, for some stupid reason those youtube links are private. I'll upload them to the SDA youtube channel later, but for now you can just watch the recorded moments on ustream.

Plasmo: Glad you enjoyed the marathon so much! I didn't know you liked speedruns until I saw you in the Blast Corps topic. :D

sven666: That's really funny, because DKC and Sonic were some of the best games to watch during the marathon.

Dragoforce: We don't have all of the videos encoded yet, but you can check out what you missed on our ustream channel. I still need to properly title some of the videos though http://www.ustream.tv/SDAMarathon/videos
