Questions about DDP DOJ EX and Ketsui

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I've been warming up to DOJ. I guess it's cold nature, and interesting music are drawing me in a bit. But damn it's hard. Question I have is, I keep hearing the EX version is easier. Would it be worth getting once the patch is out? What makes it easier?

Also, I have watched some vids of Ketsui, and it seems like DOJ and it are cut from the same cloth. Similar music and somewhat similar visuals. I've heard that Ketsui is almost as hard as DOJ. What's the scoop on that. Not that i'll get to play it within the next 5 years(or ever), but hey, i'm interested.

DOJ, Ketsui and ESPGALUDA are all on the same hardware. They are equally awesome IMHO. Yes, DOJ BL EX is worth owning, especially if you already have a Japanese 360. It is easier in it's "arcade" mode, and super-easy in EX mode. Ketsui is a very fun game, but will get quite hard, even more so when played for score. Though it does not have to be memorized, chain-wise like the 'pachis. The score system is very easy to remember and can be applied in lots of different ways.

Does it look much better on the 360? GMintyFresh on YouTube goes on about how much nicer it looks, but I can't tell much from YouTube videos.

The thing to love about Ketsui (imo) is that the scoring system is so flexible. It lets you play how you want to play. The game feels very open and you can take your own approach to the levels. It's a really simple scoring mechanic, but it also rewards risk and aggression. DOJ is just so rigid with the chaining. It's still an awesome game but ... to me the two games don't feel anything alike.

i would almost have to say ketsui is harder in my experience....like i could make it to the 5th stage on DOJ within a few days of getting it(shit score mind you)

i have never made it to the 5th stage of ketsui, and ive had that for well over a year playing fairly consistently

Erm doj ex is pretty much the same. Some of the portraits etc have been updated. I suppose it might look better on an lcd due to a better upscaled image on 360 ... You can add a smoothing filter if you want... if you want...

ex is kind of nice to have, but it kind of annoys me for being easier; even though relatively I suck at shmups. In my very humble opinion ex cheapens doj a bit. But of course if you hate dying its probably good to have ;) ... Personally, whilst ex is decent to have, I think the best thing about doj ex is the black label version; minor changes, but some (fun) pain :P

Its not worth getting a j360 for, but if you have a j360 for everything else then go for it.
