Checked out the 2009 remake of V yet?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

For the old timer sci-fi fans, you might recall the original V mini-series that aired back in 1983-1984 along with the concluding "V: The Final Battle" that shows the human resistance turning the tide against the lizard-like aliens. After watching the new much hyped-up 2009 V pilot episode, it does have some cool twists and spins to set it apart from the original series. I like the cool sleek V alien spy probes that can seek out humans with the intention of killing them...this wasn't featured in the original series whatsoever though. What did you think of this 2009 pilot episode of V?

Are they gonna show the lady alien swallowing the rat/hamster/rodent thing like they did in the old one?

I wish people would stop remaking my childhood.

I'm underwhelmed. Unless I start seeing some lizard people eating the super annoying people I want to lose to their new cold blooded overlords and die in a fire, it'll probably just take up duty as back ground noise for me.

Am I the only one who thinks most TV series are super pretentious lately? Shows during the 80's were far from perfect, but there was a shred of sincerity in most of the performances. Even the most popular show as of right now, House M.D., has that Thirteen character that nobody likes. Every time the plot puts her in danger, people feel excited and hopeful that character will be killed off.

... I'm just grumpy that a Let's Play channel would be better than the Oprah, soaps, learn yer GEDs, empathy training for children (PBS), the "Middle East is not fun" hour, and infomercial hell we have now.

Thank you Christ for the Internet.

I actually enjoyed the 1st episode.....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I like the actors chosen and their respective characters are nice, but what the hell is up all those New Yorkers applauding like that? That's just nuts.

I'm ravenous for scifi. Enjoyed the pilot and will keep watching. Thinking about checking out the original... I was 6-8 yrs old so all i remember is one horrific scene that gave me nightmares for years, and a few other vague scenes. Does it make sense to watch the old alongside the new? Or should i watch all the old first? Or will watching the old spoil the storyline for the new one?

You hit the nail right on the head, my dude.
Thats why I couldn't stand the new Battlestar Galactica. The old school one had that sort of cheesiness that made it entertaining to watch regardless of age, but this new one is all super duper serious and shit like that. I wanna see Cylons getting photon laser beams shot up they asses and insane intergalactic dogfighting, not a fucking soap opera.

I'm currently enjoying the hell out of Star Trek TOS (remastered) after thinking I might like it after watching the new Movie. The campiness, the man-in-suit aliens. Good stuff.

Eh...newer sci-fi tends to disagree with me. I thought shit like the original Star Trek was fantastic, but watching TNG was impossible for me. Star Trek mixed the unknown with cool shit and action and adventure and planets and hoes, and TNG is kinda just like..."Sup, I'm Patrick Stewart, sweet, let's be all cerebral and boring."

I'll probably check this out anyway, though.

I hope the new chick can bring the in the cunt factor that the old Dianna did. I remember loathing that bitch in the original but that's what made her memorable. I love to hate characters like that..... to the point I hate them so much I like them even more.

This is all based on memories from quite some time ago....

Watched the first episode yesterday, and so far I like it. It felt alot like "They Live" at one point, which is a good thing, and they kept the creepy feel to the visitors.

Here's what the hippies over at LegitGov had to say about the show:
During the interview, interspersed with scenes from a meeting of a nascent resistance movement, Anna, the Visitors' leader, announces that the Visitors 'want to provide complete medical services for all.' The interviewer actually asks, 'You're talking about universal health care?' And Anna, the scourge of mankind, replies, 'Yes, I believe that's what you call it.' The implication by the ABC producers of 'V': An alien lizard fascist, trying to take control of earth and who must be destroyed at any cost, will provide universal health care as a cover to control all earthlings and to take over the planet.
