Anyways, I'm looking to by myself a new DVD-player. Since I want to record replays as well I'm looking to buy one with a hard drive. My question is this: If I buy one with a USB port, will I be able to transfers the replays direct to a computer or through a portable hard drive? I have been looking for an answer for some time now without result.
No, none of the "brand" HDD/DVD recorders allow direct access to the HDD content. If you want to transfer your HDD recordings to a PC, you need to copy them onto a DVD-R(W) first. Most players have fast-dub functions, so this won't too long (15min for a full DVD).

Says it only does PAL and SECAM, and I'm assuming you'll want to record NTSC as well. 'course the information might not actually be accurate, on my recorder's official site (a Sony RDR-HXD870) it says the same thing but it records NTSC quite happily.

This depends on what quality you record the footage at. I record at the highest possible and fast dub isn't available for it, so it takes the same amount of time as the footage lasts.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Oh, crap. That would have been very convenient otherwise.

Hmmm, as far as I can see there is no DVD recorder that specifies that it records NTSC. A friend of mine claimed that almost all of the do it though. Guess I can send it right back if it doesn't work.
