Nice,

Hopefully it will lead to a lowering of the price of TGM 2+ and TGM 3. :twisted:

Has anyone played Tetris Grand Master Ace on the XBox 360?

I've only read negative reviews on it but I can't quite believe them.

Orange could probably give you an overview of the changes, but suffice to say Ace isn't as hardcore as Terror Instinct. I'd recommend it though. there's a lot of different modes and the challenge roads get tough as hell. i still haven't finished it up. and there's a good translation guide on tetrisconcept wiki to help you navigate the menus.

if you want a freeware alternative, check out Heboris on pc. it's a sort of clone of Terror Instinct

FUCK YEAH!!

They better not fuck up like they did for TGM 360. Tetris Company made Akira change the gameplay for the worse on the 360 port.

God damn it Tetris Company. :evil:

I'm not too sure about the BG graphics on this one. I like the space themes used in TGM3 better. If they have Shinji Hosoe & Ayako Saso doing BGM again, good.

Yes, I'm hoping for a 360 port - but I'd like to see TGM 3 included as extra content. TGM Ace is definitely not a port, even though it has the TGM 3 soundtrack with a few extra BGMs added (Kalinka, 2 versions of Katyusha, and Korobeiniki).

I really like the look of this one.

I should get my hands on Heboris. Only Tetris I have is DS but I really should have something better.

Flowers aren't my thing, but the theme still looks quite nice.

Exactly what is preventing TGM games from seeing any release outside of Japan? Has it something to do with the Tetris Company?

It's probably just lack of interest from publishers. Even if Arika's license only covers Japan, an American publisher could probably pick it up if they wanted to negotiate the license with TTC.

To be fair, Microsoft also had their share of raping TGM; they forced Arika to rush the game in time for the Japanese 360 launch. Still, from what I've seen, I'd much rather play that than, say, Tetris Friends, Tetris DS, or (I don't care how much shit I get for this) Game Boy Tetris. Only problem is renewing my XBL Gold account so I can get proper TGM Rotation.
Ex-Cyber wrote:It's probably just lack of interest from publishers. Even if Arika's license only covers Japan, an American publisher could probably pick it up if they wanted to negotiate the license with TTC.
That, and TGM has very little ground outside of Japan, outside of Tetrisconcept regulars and their friends. The average Western gamer would look at TGM as nothing more than identical Tetris clone #329501856893276.

With that said, I'd like to see what Arika will do with TGM4; I'm glad to see Marathon mode included alongside Master (even though I play Marathon modes like once in a green moon), as it provides some familiarity for those who have never touched a TGM game.
CStarFlare wrote:I should get my hands on Heboris. Only Tetris I have is DS but I really should have something better.
Heboris: Unofficial Expansion is alright, but it doesn't emulate TGM modes well and updates have stopped due to a combination of getting Arika's attention and the source code for the game being impossible to look at. I'd suggest getting Texmaster or NullpoMino instead.

Mihara did a new posting according to Tetrisconcept:

* will use the New Net City cab at AM show
* SD/HD compatible
* "kindness" as the theme; hardcore players will continue to experience hardcore, while "half-assed players" may say the game got dumbed down and declare the game dead. Mihara looking forward to hearing such things from halfasses.
* will use Sega Ringwide, but not necessarily published by Sega; too early to tell
* Theme will involve reincarnating life; the word "round" being one of the key words
* Rules will differ between SRS/ARS in some modes; In SRS-Master you aim for score while in ARS faster clear times
* Controls will feature some "kindness"; ARS will have an added "special" button, no details on what it does yet
* the new Konoha mode will be quite controversial; Jin8, who is helping with testing, is already hooked. Prepare to doubt your own eyes ... in the galgame elements thrown in
* Hints: Jin8 has no interest in galgames whatsoever; Kitakitsune alerts are very important; Has there ever been a galgame before with such lack of will to reveal?
* Sorry in advance to those who may say this isn't their image of TGM. But this is a game of skill.
* 3 modes; Master, Rounds, Konoha
* "Leaving behind 1/60"
* tuning has been hell because of this decision; spent the last 3 weeks thinking about it day and night

Why do I have a feeling that blocks are gonna fall at a rate of 240BPM in the 20G-speed mode of this game?

More info:

More details!

* ARS is move reset
* A "Special" button replaces second counterclockwise rotation button
* Moving the lever while having special held down will activate instant DAS
* 22 lines in field
* Sparks fly when moving pieces
* Music is recycled from TGM3 (probably temporary)
* Master, Rounds as "standard" modes; Konoha, Kamui as "Time Attack" modes
* Kamui disabled for now
* music did not change during game
* stalling for 13 mins will trigger high-speed penalty

Master:

* Master feels about the same as TAP
* seems to be more torikans in place; torikans at 700, 800, 900
* no grade display

Rounds:

* Rounds seems to be Death/Shirase successor; 1400+ seems to exist
* in rounds 300/500/700/900/1100s, a haze covers part of the field
* lines in the haze do not clear until end of section, when it mass-clears all at once
* no line-adding or decoloring

Konoha:

* Konoha is Big mode with a silhouette of a girl in the background; all-clearing the field shows the picture partially, twice for fully, thrice for next picture
* The "Kitakitsune alert" shows up when an all-clear is possible given the current next/hold set
* with a countdown time limit; clearing lines increases the time
* no SZs are dealt; only 5 kinds of tetrominos enter the game
* "Kitakitsune alert" shows up as a picture of a fox aside the level display
* failing to all-clear despite a Kitakitsune alert will cause a laughing fox voice to play

Move reset is infinity, right? Hopefully Arika has a way to keep this from being a problem, without resorting to checkpoint timers ala TGM ACE. Exceeding a section time limit in ACE forces a game over immediately (blargh), while TGM 3 just gives you a Regret and lets the game proceed.

The Tetris guideline is supposedly revised late in the year, so I'm guessing Arika might have waited for a 2009 TG, probably to avoid another TGM ACE situation. The home port could probably come out BEFORE the TG is revised for 2010. Here's hoping the 2010 TG revisions come as late as possible.
