Neo geo joypad supergun not working

Post by Khan »

Hi
I have a supergun that I use with a neo geo joystick. I bought a neo geo joypad off ebay to use with the supergun because frankly im more comforable with a pad but for some reason the only thing that works is the d pad none of the buttons or the start/select buttons is this the problem of the super gun or would it be the joy pad?

thanks for your help

I remember once in my hey day that there is 2 pins that do the same thing on the neo geo. If your supergun used one, and the pad used the other, it might cause such a problem.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

These are those Neo Geo CD pads, right? Those require +5v on pin 8 to even work.

The newer style kindney shaped Neo stick and pads require that extra +5 volt to work correctly (also converters need it to). Check Hard MVS for the pinout. It should not be to hard to add the extra line to both ports.

I could do it but im busy ATM, it depends on the PSU you are using and tapping that 5 volt line and soldering to the pin on the inside of the DB15 connector

Might be worth checking if you have 5V and that your pad is working before you go making any mods.

You need a basic multimeter, which you can buy for less than £5.

The NeoGeo pads in particular are notorious for having the cheapest possible switches that tend to fail after only moderate use. It's a shame really, as the NeoGeo was one of the most expensive systems ever, yet those chose the cheapest switches known to man for the pads.

I had a similar problem with one of my pads. Down and left just didn't work. I thought the switches must be okay because they still clicked when I moved the stick, but they were not making proper contact. Repair is very, very difficult :(
