Mushihime-sama
Ibara (though in its defense it is only because the graphics are wretched in the port)

Assuming this is import only (not available in the west)

Best: DDP DOJ. :!: :!: :!: (best purchase I made for the PS2).

Worst: dunno. I didn't like the Ibara port at all, but to say it's the worst... :?

Revised due to another thread of cave best to worst and there seems to be alot of votes for them in this thread.

That being said, as a new import shmuper that has missed out, I am looking for the next in line of good ones after the four cave purchases of course. I know there are threads etc. But a list from you guys gives me a great starting point to USE the search function on the titles.

psyvariar has always peaked my interest but I still need research the diff between versions, ie. isnt there one to aviod as there is a new one which has that game plus another or something of the sort?

Homura, Looks Vasara-ish which I love.

Thunderforce VI - updated graphics wins my heart (hell, I like silpheed)

XII stag

triggerheart excelica enhanced

Looking in threads there are statements about PLENTY of shmups on ps2. I mainly try to youtube it a bit to see gamplay and whats available.

Fun to see your lists though, thanks guys

I would skip XII Stag and THE... and anything from Milestone.. Psyvariar is pretty good, both are worth having. Homaru isn't bad either, though I haven't played it extensively. Also Shiki 1+2 are much better in import form.

A Cave-free thread? I say!

I you live in Europe almost all the good shmups are released here (except Cave's of course) Otherwise I strongly recomend Psikyo's shooting collections. Number three is quite funny in the aspect that it contains the worst as well as one of the best shmups released on the PS2.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

No one here talks about Star Soldier much, shame too.

You're in for a treat, there are a number of good ones.
(REVISED- not CAVE)
Wait... What? I no longer understand the question.

Uhhh... I guess that leaves Homura and... Dragon Blaze? Yeah, that's about it for me, I think.

Without Cave games?

Psyvariar 2. No, really... that's it. Though if it weren't an import only list, Gradius V would definitely be on there, bringing my list to two.

Nobody ever mentions Psyvariar Revision :(

Psyvariar Revision. Or Psyvariar Complete, if you're in PALland.

If i could have a sequel to any game, it would be Homura. The bombing needs to be fixed though, just doesn't work right. otherwise a perfect game

You could have just asked for PS2 import recommendations instead of pulling this shit.

There was a sequel mentioned in a financial report some time ago but it never materialized.

Fingers crossed they might decide to make one on their new PC-based hardware
