TV too small? My supergun image woes...
TV too small? My supergun image woes...
So, playing PCB's (Jamma/MVS) on my supergun, the image appears to large for my TV, and is cropped off on three sides out of four.
My supergun outputs via SCART to my TV, and, according to my wife who works in the TV industry, by screen is definitely 4:3.
I can't change the aspect ratio on my TV. Is it just that I need a TV that can do 14:9, or do I need a new supergun?
Thanks!

You need to adjust the horizontal and/or the vertical size. If you're lucky this will be in a hidden service menu.

A service menu on each individual board? So for Jamma boards I'd need to do it on each board, and for MVS I'd need to do it on the mobo i guess?cools wrote:You need to adjust the horizontal and/or the vertical size. If you're lucky this will be in a hidden service menu.
So it's not that all arcade games output in 14:9?

Service menu on the TV. Otherwise it's a case of whipping the back off and finding the pots that need tweaking

For Spadgy,
Each seperate arcade PCB has it's own various seperate RGB output rate (i.e. the PGM-based Cave PCBs like DDP-DOJ, Ketsui & ESPgaluda are notorious for very high RGB level outputs -- some low-res RGB monitors can't accept as they are straight from the PCB directly so a resistor at each line is needed to tone them down to acceptable levels) and seperate horizontal and vertical screen size. You'll have to adjust the screen size, H-position along with V-position for best results with each PCB being played -- that is a given fact. ^_~
If you can source a 14" Amiga 1084 monitor, it has all the necessary adjustments to display your favorite PCBs as they should be. I've got an Amiga 1080 monitor myself and although it doesn't have all the extra adjustments of the latter 1084 monitor variant has, it still is a cool little RGB monitor for playing PCBs on. ^_~

Thanks guys! No service menu as far as I know, and I'm not sure I like the idea of constantly removing the back of my TV (as it is still used as a TV by my wife) is ideal.
However, somewhere in an attic I have an old Amiga monitor. That could be a solution. Otherwise it's time to think of finding a nice quality TV screen with a service menu for vertical and horizontal.
Thanks again!

Service menus may be accessed by secret commands, google up the one for your tv.

Your Amiga monitor is the perfect choice. Since it will have the controls for vertical and horizontal stretch either underneath the flap or beneath the CRT itself.spadgy wrote:Thanks guys! Yes! For LG TVs - hold 'OK" on the remote and TV front panel simultaneously for a few seconds. On mine I just had to press the AV button to confirm (There was a maessage on the screen's bottom telling me to do so.
This is amzing. So many games had been ruined, and now I can view them!
If it helps, I accidently found this is how you do it on many Sony TV (haven't tried it myself):

I ruined a TV once going into the service menu. Be warned.

Ah - OK - I'll take it very carefully...

you should be fine....just dont touch anything that isnt screen size adjustmentsspadgy wrote:Ah - OK - I'll take it very carefully...

I get a load of options nut it seems obvious what related to vertical and horizontal. With my wife working in TV post-production, hopefully she can give me some pointers...jonny5 wrote:you should be fine....just dont touch anything that isnt screen size adjustmentsspadgy wrote:Ah - OK - I'll take it very carefully...
