People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
I keep reading about people doing this, but, unless they don't have the 3-year warranty, I can't understand why. I mean, MS started that warranty less then 3 years ago, so no one who bought a 360 after that point should have an expired warranty. Can you only send in your 360 a limited amount of times within the warranty? That's the only thing I can think of.

Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
Dave,
Some people have had up to 15 machines since the launch of the 360!! Microsoft have been good about replacing faulty units. Obviously some people are out of warranty and when the slightest thing starts to blip they trade in their old machine for a new one for the new warranty. Some people have a spare on the side.
Frankly, I'd have to say its all a load of %$)&(^%. Even if Ketsui came out on it for $1.99 I'd not buy one out of general principle. But thats just me.

They want to play all the latest trendy games at *any* price. This also explains why the server based games have a membership fee. Don't think past today seems to be the motto.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I play the games I want to because they are fun- trendy does not fit into it for me. I can't speak for the mass- though. That being said- I have lost a few in the beginning- knock on wood it's been a long time since the last one. I have not spent a penny in getting repairs done. That being said- I've really really wanted to like my PS3- but so far it's been good for cheap BR's every now and again, not much game time has been spent (Uncharted, Siren, Warhawk, Wipeout, a few others). 360 has waaaay more going for it in the way of content.
This thread just feels like it'll bring about the trolls.
Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
Some people dislike owning refurbished stuff, like myself. That's why I sold my repaired JP 360 and bought a new one.
Yeah it's expensive but I make good use of it.

Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
Ok, I gotcha-and I want to state categorically that it is not, and never was, my intention to belittle any people who have purchased multiple 360's, or to question their intelligence. That may or may not keep the trolls away! I will say, though, that I think that Sony bet a lot on Blu-Ray, and, although it won out over HD DVD, most people that I know that wanted Blu-Ray already have a Blu-Ray player, and it's not a PS3.Elixir wrote:Some people dislike owning refurbished stuff, like myself. At any rate, if MS refurbishes 360's, most people don't have problems with it after that, do they? (I mean, if you're buying one at GameStop, then it will probably break again.) I do realize some people are outside of the warranty, but for those inside it, the 3-years isn't up yet. And my question still remains as to how many times during that warranty people can send their 360's into MS. I have heard, don't know if it's true, that the 3-year warranty only covers the RROD, and not issues with the tray malfunctioning, or anything else on the system breaking.

That's true. The warranty only covers the RRoD. Mine died of a GPU error and I had to pay around $100 USD just to have it repaired.
I still have no idea where you're going with this though.

Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
I think it's measured from date of purchase or date of manufacture, not 3 years from when they announced the warranty.I mean, MS started that warranty less then 3 years ago, so no one who bought a 360 after that point should have an expired warranty
Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
It's managed by the date of the console, on the back.
Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
I actually misread what I quoted; it clearly refers to systems purchased after the extension went into effect. Still, a hell of a lot of systems were sold before then. The extension was announced well over a year after launch, so some people probably bought a replacement in that window as well (i.e. between their 1-year warranty expiring and the extension being announced).

The info you gave me is where I'm going with that-essentially, my question is: Why would anyone with a 3-year warranty buy another 360? There were a lot of people who bought one before that came into effect, as has been pointed out.Elixir wrote:That's true. The warranty only covers the RRoD. I've totally come around. The xbox 360's build quality is crap. I mean we all made jokes about the ps2's selling so much because early ones kept breaking down but this is like another level. Sadly I don't have much a choice. It's obvious I'm not the Wii's main audience and while I like that overpriced bluray/wipeout player, it doesn't have enough games.
The cool thing is that the ps3 slim is coming out soon and it'll be coming with a price drop.

$299.00 with a 120gb hard drive, but still those irrelevant 1993 Sega Genesis cables. I think it looks cool, personally-certainly less fingerprints!

Dave, given that the 360 can break down for other things besides the RROD, and MS won't cover it, that's probably why.
Unless I missed something above in the thread.

Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
I bought a Falcon about a year and a half ago. It lasted about 16 months or so. Then it got the RROD, I sent it in, and a couple of months later it got it again. So, that kind of put me off. I mean, you send it in to get fixed for that, and then it dies a couple of months later. Bogus.
Well, I bought a Japanese Jasper, and i'm hoping it lasts a couple of years. Hopefully by then they'll have a long lasting version. Sad, but it's got all the games on it.

Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
That's a good point. I was told by a guy at Play N Trade that they are actually seeing more Jaspers get the RROD-he said that it might be people placing them in cramped spaces more because they figure it's a more durable unit. A dumb thing to do for sure, but everyone else I've talked to says that you're golden if you get a Jasper.Specineff wrote:dave4shmups wrote:The info you gave me is where I'm going with that-essentially, my question is: Why would anyone with a 3-year warranty buy another 360? Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
it's actually by the purchase date. i just sent my US console in for repair (disc read error) and my console is under the 1 year warranty until 10/09, but it has a manufacturing stamp of 8/08. i guess when they scan the console serial at the point of purchase the serial is sent off to MS.Elixir wrote:It's managed by the date of the console, on the back.
Re: People who keep on buying XBOX 360's....
true the 360's reliability is a bit dismal (as i type this i'm waiting for UPS to come and pick mine up to get repaired for the second time in 2 years) but it has good games (this is subjective i know) xbox live is great and it just so happens that the majority of my gamer friends have 360's too.
personally i think the 360 is the gamers console of the generation, sony took to long getting a decent game line up (and took to long in cutting the cost of the PS3) and i think the Wii's success is based solely on the 'casual market' i dont know a single serious gamer who only owns a Wii and not one of the other two current gen machines as well.
the fact that despite the well known reliability problems the 360 is still selling in high numbers, this should tell you that it is a very very good console, so good that people can overlook its huge short comings.

Correction.
The 360 is only the gamers console of this generation if you like FPS/Sports game and you like listening to 13 years old say "**cking noob a**hole" all the time.
Its actually sad to me thats the way console gaming is going.

I bought my first JP 360 used and when I had to have it repaired they asked for the date of the console. This is what pretty much everyone will have to go by considering imported consoles never come with receipts.brokenhalo wrote:it's actually by the purchase date. i just sent my US console in for repair (disc read error) and my console is under the 1 year warranty until 10/09, but it has a manufacturing stamp of 8/08. i guess when they scan the console serial at the point of purchase the serial is sent off to MS.Elixir wrote:It's managed by the date of the console, on the back.

Only if you define trolls as people who are pointing out that they like the 360 because it has more games, and that that's why they are sticking with it.Elixir wrote:I bought my first JP 360 used and when I had to have it repaired they asked for the date of the console. I don't think anyone in the history of ever has deliberately purchased a console going "man, that's a great piece of hardware. I can't wait to take it home, light some candles, turn it on, put some discs in it and wake up tomorrow with buyer's regret."
People buy consoles to play games, it's really not hard to understand at all. Unless you want more people telling you that the 360's hardware is bad but it's the most worthwhile system so far, this thread isn't going places.

They couldn't send me a box for a repair last year on the 3rd RROD because my address wasn't working (?). Strange since the address never changed... 45 days and no repair box made me buy an arcade one to tide me over! that and the wifes tetris and oblivion addictions were causing conflicts with my TF2 addiction at the time
it is nice having 2 to keep us both busy now... but dont get me started on DRM!!!!!

No, it is the Pro model that is getting phased out. The Elite models will be getting a $100 price drop to compensate. So the PS3 Slim and the 360 Elite will be the same price soon.dave4shmups wrote:Isn't MS phasing out the Arcade Model?
