Installed latest XBL update? Reinstall your X360 shmups

Post by nZero »

The latest XBox360 firmware/XBL update adds a nice new feature: games installed to the hard drive no longer copy all of the padding data from the disc. However, this isn't a retroactive change-- for games already installed to the HDD you'll have to delete them and reinstall them to see any benefit. The space savings on my JP 60GB XBox360 console just from the shoot'em ups:

DEATHSMILES: 3.4GB → 2.0GB
Raiden Fighters Aces: 3.4GB → 477MB
Otomedius G: 3.4GB → 3.3GB
Shooting Love 200x: 3.4GB → 3.0GB
DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou Black Label EX: 3.4GB → 2.3GB
Raiden IV: 3.4GB → 377MB

After reinstalling all of my X360 disc games, I went from 17.3GB of free space to 28.2GB of free space.

PERHAPS you don't want to install this.
Because there's a homebrew hack coming up, which won't work with the new update.
Additionally the update process is a *little bit* risky.

Hmm, I don't think I'll bother. Out of those that I do own, I'm only really saving space on Death Smiles. Though this has me curious as to what other games this also changes.

I'm assuming you can't play online without getting the latest dash update, so I guess I would have gotten it anyways. Not wasting the 50 bucks I spent on Gold just to play TuxRacer.

But perhaps to play imports? Who knows what this will bring ;)
And i'd love some nice emulated goodness on the 3 CPU cores.
