Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week

Until Jan 20th, Ikaruga is half-price. Proceed to bitch about how it's broken/different from Naomi/DC or GCN. At about £2.50 I really can't complain (especially since I have my modded X-Arcade I put together for SFIV).

It's worth that just to watch the downloadable replays IMO. The top score keeps creeping up gradually too so people are still playing the thing.

too bad i already bought this... i could have used those 5 bux in something else hehe...

Any who do not buy this at a mere $5 are not shmup fans. Even if you think the port is busted (which it isn't, it's only slight differences) you should buy this to show your support for the genre. Or keep to bitching and watch as our fav genre creeps even further into obscurity...

Cheers for the info mate, just grabbed it.
Not too sure about the scoring mechanic yet but at 400 points you cant grumble

Even if you don't like Ikaruga and have no desire to ever play it again?Zero Gunner wrote:Any who do not buy this at a mere $5 are not shmup fans.
I wonder how many more sales this will generate. If you like Ikaruga, $10 was already a steal. If you don't like Ikaruga, it's still a waste of $5.
Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
If you don't like the game, then think of it as a $5 donation to Treasure to let them know that people still play shmups.

So you want to make them believe stuff that isn't necessarily true!?bcass wrote:If you don't like the game, then think of it as a $5 donation to Treasure to let them know that people still play shmups.
They'll get a better idea of the market if you don't purchase unneeded stuff.
It's VIRTUAL anyway, so nothing you can look at, pet, treasure (bad pun!) whatsoever.
If you don't own any copy of it... you'd be stupid to miss out on trying it legally at this price.
If you don't like it much (like myself) you don't loose too much.
Otherwise... why?

I understand the desire to support the genre, but I don't want to do so indiscriminately, even if it's cheap. I'd rather mail a $5 check to Treasure and write "Thanks for making shmups, but I'll pass on Ikaruga" on the memo line.bcass wrote:If you don't like the game, then think of it as a $5 donation to Treasure to let them know that people still play shmups.
OTOH, if a company makes a game I actually want to play (e.g., Ketsui), I'll be more than happy to fork over full retail for it.

this is worth getting. who cares if you own it already. I have a GC version of the game just because I'd like treasure to stay around. this is a steal on a very amazing shmup.

Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
I grabbed it at this price. At 400 points being just under £3, it was hard to say no, even though I didn't "need" it as I've got it on the DC.
I see people saying that there is a problem with the port/scoring mechanics in comparison to the Naomi/DC version. Could you please elaborate, or point me in the direction of the details of this?

To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.
Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
Enemy patterns are different. Not really much of a "problem" as it is a "difference", or so it seems.
Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
Picked this up just because it was only 400points have the DC version already but 360 version plays on HDTV very well

Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
That's a great plan of action. Holding out for that one special type of game in an already extremely niche genre.Super Laydock wrote:They'll get a better idea of the market if you don't purchase unneeded stuff.
I don't see how buying Ikaruga will send the wrong message to the developer or the publisher. I would definitely enjoy more traditional shoot'em-ups (in contrast to arena shmups) or more Treasure ports or, even on broader scale, more 2D games. Win win win

Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
It's a shame you can't gift games on XBLA like Nintendo's Virtual Console/WiiWare shop.
Re: Ikaruga XBLA, 400MS points, this week
The problem is that you have to draw the line somewhere. If I did buy it to support the genre, would it not logically follow that I buy every shmup on XBLA? Even mediocre games like 1942 JS, or shmups from a series that I never liked (R-Type Dimensions)? And if I'm going to buy every one of those, why not buy every physical media shmup as well? I could afford it (only a few come out a year, after all), but I'd end up with a collection of games that I never play. So I go by the simple rule of "if I know I'm not going to play it, I'm not buying it."nem wrote:That's a great plan of action. As for the check, I said "I'd rather," not "I will."

This thread covered most of it (or had links to other threads that went further in depth). There's also this Super_Play thread.DrTrouserPlank wrote:I grabbed it at this price. At 400 points being just under £3, it was hard to say no, even though I didn't "need" it as I've got it on the DC.
