Help me decide my next Wii Shop purchases!

Post by redeyeguy_KIO »

I already bought F-Zero X, Zanac, and the Internet Channel. Help me figure out what to buy the next time I purchase a Wii Point Card (2000 points), based on THESE games..

Gunstar Heroes (Genesis... 800 Wii Points)
Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (NES... 600 Wii Points)
R-Type III - The Third Lightning (SNES... 800 Wii Points)
Tetris Party (WiiWare... 1200 Wii Points)
Axelay (SNES... 800 Wii Points)

Remember, I will only have 2000 Wii Points to spend! Help me decide! Thanks. :D

P.S. - Although I would prefer using all my Wii Points up in one day, I wouldn't mind leftover Points as long as I am satisfied with the games. Also, I'd find it helpful if you told me in what order I should get each game.

None of them - you can just download them instead. Tetris Party looks like a flash game too, I wouldn't get that if I were you. Maybe try Gradius Rebirth? I think it's a WiiWare exclusive.

You're not helpful, as it's irrelevant to what I asked. I want to purchase these games because I enjoy playing them on a big TV screen with kick-ass sound than on a shitty 16" laptop monitor.

Though Gradius Rebirth seems like a nice game, it does not interest me nearly as much as the others.

You said "based on these games", not "I want to purchase one of these games."

Hey, if you want to waste money, go right on ahead.

I assumed the obvious would've already been implied.

The obvious obviously isn't implied, since I read it the same way as Etrian did. Also, protip, that isn't what having aspergers is. You could have worded it better, you know.

But Etrian's right, buy something that's exclusive to WiiWare instead. I mean, you've already made the mistake of buying Wii Points. I'm sure you'll get a lot of kick ass sound out of 16bit games.

I understand your point. If you like shooters (hey, you are a member of shmups.com) R-Type III is definitely worth downloading, I like it a lot. Axelay I can't judge, as it is not available for Europe on Wii.
I heard many good things regarding Gunstar Heroes, but downloaded Super Turrican as shooter/platformer instead.

I don't know Tetris Party, but I can comment on the other titles.

Axelay is not worth it, IMO. It was popular back in the day mainly due to the excessive Mode 7 abuse, but it has aged terribly. Avoid.
The Lost Levels is great, but it's really just a few super-hard extra stages for SMB1. Great if you love the original a lot and you are looking for a bigger challenge.
R-type III starts out slow and sluggish, but it picks up later. It's a worthy purchase and generally a great game.
Gunstar Heroes is a difficult case. Personally, I can't stand it, but a lot of people love it. I just feel it's too full of creativity for its own good. But if you like Treasure's style of game design (include everything and the kitchen sink), you can't go wrong here. It's definitely one of Tresure's more playable games.

I would suggest R-Type III…

I would have said Gunstar Heroes, but that is also on XBLA, and has leaderboards and… ONLINE multi-player! (Nintendo drop the ball hard with out coding online two player on VC games IMO) - also its just me, but I like to play Genesis games with a Genesis/Saturn style controller… Genesis don't feel "right" playing with a controller with buttons lay out in diamond formation…

Super Mario Bros lost levels is just like original Super Mario Bros. more of the same but on steroids of challenge. Only american snobs praise it because they feel they are above what was the USA Super Mario Bros. 2…

Axelay is ok in my books. We use to call it mode 7 shooting as a child. The horizontal levels are still quality today but as Herr Schatten, mode 7 has not met age with the best.

Super Turrican is also a nice suggestion by Erik.

Gunstar Heroes for sure if you at all like run-n-guns. Incredible game!

As for the others, I wouldn't personally get any of them except maybe Lost Levels, but that's because I hate the R-Type series, I'm not a big fan of Tetris, and Axelay is sort of meh. That's all personal reasons though. They're all pretty different games so it depends on what you like.

I know what Asperger's is, better than most people here. I also called it out as a joke, not LITERALLY. And the obvious IS implied, as I made the exact same post on other forums, and they understood just fine (I did this to get as many opinions and suggestions as possible).

Thanks for the suggestions guys! If anyone feels they need to contribute more, then feel free to do so.

If you don't use pipe warps, the lost levels is a great challenge.
And that's what makes it awesome. It plays exactly like the first one, but it has absolute demonic level design.
It's so tough, it almost feels like a ROM-hack at some spots. ^^
If you like your games really really really hard (and since you registered at this forum i suppose you do) this will make you happy.

And R-Type III should be an obvious choice.

Actually, I AM a fan of quality Mario hacks (Demo World TLC, Luigi's Adventure, TSRP2, and Mario Adventure), which is why I put Lost Levels on the the list.

Hard games are nice, and it also lets a game last longer.

I'd go with R-Type III and Tetris.

In the future you should know that a lot of people on this forum are just gonna troll you if you ask about download service roms, especially for really common console games. This community is built around MAME and stuff so...

I will say that Gunstar Heroes is a crappy deal on Wii since the 360 version is cheaper with more features, namely online co-op. That's about the only thing I'd consider buying from what you listed. I don't see why people aren't demanding competitive pricing from Nintendo on stuff that's available on other services. Lost Levels is an ok deal I guess. Mario game scrolling always looks choppy to me on a PC.

We should keep an open mind on games on all platforms, also on "common" games if somebody is asking for advice me thinks. The guy specifically asks for Wii games to download, otherwise he would start a MAME thread.

Personally I like MAME (only discovered it recently), but a PC can bring limitations. Just like the thread starter, I don't like to play on a smaller screen with not-so-hot sound. The controls are also not as fluid with my crappy Fighterwing joystick. Of course, all of this could be solved doing some investments, but I am not willing to do.

Furthermore some games don't run at all in MAME, or have strange errors. I am also still having trouble of getting my hi-scores saved, which basically ruins part of the fun factor when playing a shooter. The latter's probably just my own non-professialism, but what the heck.
I like MAME to see the old forgotten games, or to see what people are raving about. Ocassionaly, I play a game or two but I see it as an addition only, not a replacement for my console games (certainly not taking in account my earlier mentioned PC's limitations).

Personally, I think the Wii games are cheap and decent ports, and can provide a good bunch of fun. And you don't have to buy an SNES to just play R-Type III and Probotector, just to name a few. Owning all of the original consoles also is a dream of mine, but it is not always the most practical solution. Just my two cents.

My bad, I forgot that posting the exact same thread elsewhere where a bunch of guys say it's true obviously means it's true.

Edit: Forget it. I'm obviously wasting my time.

your on the net dude. I thought it was a given that your wasting your time!?

None of these games jump out at me if I had to pick one it would be . . . Damn its a tough one I dont want any of them sorry. I guess at a push it would be gunstar heroes but I think its on the latest Megadrive collection for the 360 PS3 so i would feel cheated paying anyhting for somehting i already had (not including the actual megadrive game)

about mame - problem I have with mame is you have all these games and I dont give anyone enough time to really warrent playing them at all. I cut back to Progear and a Golden Axe R.O.D.A .

Gunstar Heroes and R-Type III are both great games. I would highly recommend them both. GH is far less frustrating though. lol

I would also recommend Alien Soldier, if you enjoy GH. It takes getting the hang of, but I think it's great. You might wanna try it out on an emulator first to see if you like it(I always do).

Sin and Punishment is great, but i'd only really recommend it if you have a Game Cube controller(and on type 4 controls in the options). It's hard to manage with the standard controller. Not impossible, but not as good.
