Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
I know that optemedius exists but i was wondering if we would ever see a true sequel?
Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
I don't know what you consider Gradius Rebirth to be, but it was an all-new Gradius game that was made after Gradius V. I know it's not called "Gradius VI" but it's the closest we've got so far.

Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
I'd buy an HD Gradius immediately. Polygons are okay as long as the game looks as superb as V. I guess they won't continue the serious though and even if they did, I was too afraid that the outcome could feel like Thunder Force VI and not like Gradius V did back in 2004.

ReBirth is more of an original game masquerading as a classic game, a la Mega Man 9.

Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
Gradius games don't need a number in their title to be a true sequel. It would be strange to consider Gradius Gaiden somehow less of a game than Gradius IV. Maybe the question is really "will Treasure develop another Gradius game?", and I'd have to say no, not in the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't mind a Sal 3 myself. One thing it needs is a "Life Force 3" mode using the Gradius powerup system. The US version could be called "Gradius: Salamander 3" for a bit more name recognition, like Namco did with their PS2 port of the gun game Crisis Zone ("Time Crisis: Crisis Zone").Vincent Draconis wrote:Honestly, I'd rather have a Salamander 3 inste-oh wait.

Yes!MADEIRA STEVE88 wrote:Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
whether it'll be released on a physical medium...?
I have my doubts.

And as some said Gradius Rebirth can be seen as a sequel, just not to V.
I am confident we'll see Gradius VI one day.
Konami would be very foolish not to make it, as it brought them lot's of fans.
Also relatively low production costs and easier profitable due to relatively stable target group/fan base.

Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
does anyone have any idea how Gradius V sold (JPN and domestic?)
And Thunderforce VI for that matter (JPN only, I know) as well as Rebirth?
I was shocked as hell to see that R-Type dimensions was developed and released, since I consider this type of game won't usually do well in the current market. I guess we're still not at the point where shmups, especially classically themed ones, are considered altogether a dead genre - which is good - but I don't think it means you'll see games in that vein very often, more like 5 years apart per entry of a series - if you are lucky.
I agree with the poster above who said they'd like to see a Salamander/Life Force update, I would prefer it over a new Gradius personally. Though they are essentially quite close, something about the Salamander aesthetic always felt much more interesting to me..

I would even enjoy a HD port to the 360 of Gradius V for the time being.

Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
At the time, I was partly joking about a Salamander 3 since Gradius V did borrow some elements found in those games. But I wouldn't even mind if the next Salamander was just a "Salamander Rebirth" instead of a full-fledged sequel.

A genre is only dead when no one wants to touch it.

Well the Fighting genre is making a comeback so lets hope SHMUPS does the same.
Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
I think no one seriously doubts there will be a sixth Gradius someday, because nothing stays dead forever - see Thunderforce...
...An entirely different matter is if we'll ever get a true spiritual sequel of V; that is a Treasure-Konami cooperation with Sakimoto music, and clever yet essential gameplay features...

Ah, but isn't there a Salamander ReBirth in the works? I remember hearing something along those lines when Contra ReBirth was first revealed.

Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
There were rumours that Konami had cancelled it, but those were debunked shortly afterwards. Still, I haven't heard or seen anything about a new Gradius game since then, so to list it coming out early next year (as that site does) seems kinda dubious.

I'm sure that date is just a placeholder, if this thing ever ends up seeing the light of day at all.
Re: Will there ever be a true sequel to Gradius V?
I was all excited for Gradius 6 when Sony announced at the TGS prior to the PS3 launch that Konami were bringing the next game in the franchise exclusively to the PS3.
then Konami released a "WTF are Sony talking about? we have no plans at all at the moment" and Sony retracted the statement.
I'm sure it'll one day come - but after the horrors of Gradius Rebirth i hope to god Treasure are again involved in any modern sequel.

Horrors of Gradius Rebirth? Seriously? What about it didn't you like?
Of course, that's just an opinion.
