The game of company X that is most like those of company Y

Post by kengou »

The thought struck me while playing Strikers 1945 Plus that the design and patterns really reminded me of a Cave game. The slow screen-filling bullets combined with the faster aimed patterns got me thinking that Plus is perhaps the most Cave-like psikyo game. I've heard lots of talk that Dragon Blaze holds this title, but I've gotta disagree; so perhaps this topic has some potential for discussion? What's the most Cave-like psikyo game? What's the most psikyo-like Cave game? What's the most Compile-like Hudson game? What's the most Konami-like SNK game?

Nah, I think the stock answer would be Mushihimesama Original mode.
Feedback will set you free.

I'm surprised that Psikyo would do another Strikers 1945 update on the venerable Neo-Geo MVS hardware in the first place a scant two years in 1999 after having released a stand-alone dedicated PCB release back in 1997.

MVS S-1945+ does have that cool Psikyo trademarked danmaku aestethics that they were famous for back in the day. ^_~

Most Konami-like SNK game? Weird question, but Cyber-Lip would be my first pick...

it's 7 weapons (or 8 if you differentiate between the radiant sword and hyper sword)

all of them do have a use, it's just the Weapon Bonus point distribution that is unbalanced

I was just throwing it out there as another example. Feel free to come up with more companies and games.

My vote for most psikyo-like Cave game probably goes to Mushi original, as well. Dangun is close, but while it is super-fast, it also has some patterns that I couldn't picture in a psikyo game. Mushi Original has fast patterns that feel very psikyo-ish.

I suppose the Cave game most like a Raizing game is too easy... unless you discount every Yagawa Cave game! How about it?

What's this? Knocking Triangle Service? Why not Milestone instead?

Considering Dodonpachi was reportedly inspired by Garegga, I'd probably pick that as the most Raizing-like Cave game, although one could make a case for Feveron's manic speed or ESPRade's aesthetics. Even ESPGaluda seems to have some visual similarities to Mahou Daisakusen in a weird way.

I'd probably go with one of the ESP games for this personally. The patterns and aesthetics certainly don't have much in common, but they don't penalize bombing very hard compared to most Cave games and feature some of the more substantial boss milking (which is unfortunate in the case of Ra.De). And Galuda 2 especially has a scoring system that feels a bit like Raizing games to me; complicated, but allowing for improvisation as you work through the stages.

Exactly. Except that it's actually more like a Toaplan game.

didn't spot that post
In that case I'd say DOJ is more like Raizing than DDP, because the rank is more severe and rank control is more feasible (still not necessary though). Also you can milk one of the bosses.
Is MMP Yagawa?
