Ikaruga in Blast City?

Post by noisuf »

I'm really tempted to get a Blast City for my shmups since I can't locate a Egret II.

I'm trying to convince myself that one of the benefits for spending the $$$ (apart from availability) is that I might be able to more easily run Ikaruga compared to a Jamma cab?

I understand the Blast City is Sega Model 3 whereas Ikaruga is Sega Naomi.

How hard is it to get a Blast City to run Ikaruga?
a) What do I need harness wise? I read from another site that I may need, "You need the -001 loom and a Sega V1 io to run a Naomi in a Blastcity."?

b) And how about the game itself? Do I need a full kit, ie. motherboard, dimm board, GD-rom drive, GD-rom, I/O board or converter, Cable?

Thanks for all your advice in advance! Hopefully you guys might just tip me over to the Blast City!!! :D

Blast City is Model 3 or JAMMA depending on the harness inside. The cab has a 3.3V PSU and a sound amp so if you have the "001" version loom with the RCA stereo leads and JST power connections, all you need to make it JVS compliant is a SEGA I/O adapter.

So to summarise...

001 JAMMA loom
SEGA JVS-JAMMA I/O
Naomi 1 motherboard
DIMM board
GD ROM drive
Ikaruga GD + IC chip
Cables (USB, SCSI & splitter for GD ROM)

I think thats everything!

or if you are not an Arcade purist (like I am not an AP) you can connect your Dreamcast to it with a VGA cable and a pad hack....

Thanks for the advice! :)

Looks like still an expensive activity even with a Sega cab... I'm a bit of a purist which does equal $$$ unfortunately...
