Nexzr Fatal Attraction!

Post by mjclark »

The more I play Nexzr the more I can't understand why I like it so much. It's like shmup pornography- it's got no depth at all, just a mechanical memory shooter without even a secondary weapon to add a bit of intelligence but I can't put it down :D
What is it that makes Nexzr so unquestionably great? I can feel it, but just can't put my finger on it....

It really does have a lot going for it imo. The choice of secondary weapon does matter, and the game can be really tough in spots, and not always due to memorization. Every level brings something new, which helps to keep even the early levels entertaining. Even after you know the levels, you still have to stay on your toes. The bosses can be a bit cheesy, but the final boss battle is excellent. On the more superficial side, it has great graphics, well-drawn anime cutscenes, and a good soundtrack. It's missing a scoring stage, but you can get that in the Summer Carnival edition.

Yes-I'm starting to see that the simplicity of the mechanics actually allows for quite a bit of creativity...
....And how do you pronounce "Nexzr" anyway? Is it "nekser" or "neksarsar" or what?

It's been a long time since I've looked at the case, but if I remember right, it's officially "Nekusuzaaru" in katakana. So... I don't know if that makes it any easier to say or not.

That means in this case, it's neksazar.

Never played it, but it looks like classic TG-16 to me! Dead on with Star Soldier or Blazing Lazers.
