Wyvern Wings :D
Has anyone played this? it's a little complicated at first with the four button layout, otherwise it's great!

Actually I just discovered an arcade near me that has Wyvern Wings and was wondering why I never herd of this game before. Afterwards I found out it was re-released in 2004 and thats probably why this arcade got it.
I only played it a couple times, and thought it was pretty good (very Psikyo-ish gameplay). But I'm not sure what you mean by 4 buttons, as the game only uses 3. I didn't know it at the time, but you can press b+c for a "final impact" move. Maybe your arcade hooked up a single button to activate both b+c?

Would that be at San Francisco State? It was there last time I checked a couple months ago.Dave_K. wrote:Actually I just discovered an arcade near me that has Wyvern Wings and was wondering why I never herd of this game before. The kit I just bought has a four button layout pictured on the instruction sheets (A,B,C & D)Dave_K. wrote:I only played it a couple times, and thought it was pretty good (very Psikyo-ish gameplay). I think it's C & D for "final impact" I'll have to double check.

I can't remember if my mall has it with 3 buttons or 4 (pretty sure its 3 in a triangle pattern), but I DO remember the game being pretty much trash. It's a Psikyo ripoff to the extreme (and some other shooters) and the version we had might have even been a bootleg or dirty since the bosses and some enemies are messed up in the sprite display.
No, I just stumbled upon it this past weekend at a golfland in Milpitas right off 680. I pass by the place all the time, yet never checked it out. I didn't think the game was all that bad....being a rip off of psikyo style shooter.IlMrm wrote:Would that be at San Francisco State? Yeah, I stumbled upon this back then and I've never seen this game before. I played it a few times(all in one day) and haven't played it since. I kinda like that boss that looked a giant wheel though.captain ahar wrote:IlMrm, didn't you ask about this a few months ago? some peeps was talking about how awful it was. oh, well.
@Dave_K. I've never been to Milpitas Golfland either. I should check it out one day.

It's just that we've been over this a couple of times before.Dave_K. wrote:Are there any reviews that you can point us to? People around here have a habbit of hating on a game just because because its not very original (for example XII Stag or Trizeal) and then turns out its not that bad at all.cigsthecat wrote:This game is not good.
It's an awful Psikyo/ Raiden Fighters ripoff. The game system is awkward, all of the enemies take too long to kill and most of the medals are worth so few points that it's not even worth picking them up. Really with so many other great games to play don't bother.
Cick on the screen shots at the bottom of the page for a slightly larger view.Cthulhu wrote:If not a review, how about some pics? I'd at least like to see what the game looks like...

There's another game that I've played that's a strikers ripoff and I can't remember the name of it(!!!!) but you know it- it looks very similar but the jets have their countries flags painted across the wings (and f15 with stars and stripes across it), what's it called?
Anyways, is Wyvern Wings BETTER or WORSE than that one?

It is from a company called Semicom.ST Dragon wrote:What company made wyvern Wings?
I can tell that those letters are Korean, but is the name of the company "Space Opera"?

Yeah, that's it. Is Wyvern Wings better or worse than Storm Blade? Probably Hyperstone for CPU, like other PCBs Semicom has retailed recently.ST Dragon wrote:Anyone knows what hardware the Wyvern Wings PCB uses?
Nah, Semicom is just one of the retailers. It's been published as both "Wivern Wings: Space Opera" and "Wyvern Wings: Space Opera".oxtsu wrote:It is from a company called Semicom.

"GameVision" was another retailer (http://www.gamevisionusa.com/) although they don't seem to have the content anymore.
I have no idea who the developer is. Semicom tend to 'develop' games on other people's hardware and hack up their engines. This looks like an original title, albeit with a lot of inspired/stolen gfx.
Sorry to resurrect a long-dead thread, but MAME has aquired a board.ST Dragon wrote:Thanks
Any detailed links on the exact PCB specs?
As suspected it's a "HyperStone E1-32T", should drop straight into Reip's/Dox's driver when dumped (sans sound). However, it will run like a dog. Those processors run at >100MHz and are a pig to emulate as it is all in software+framebuffer.
