Blast Wind: Originally planned for the arcade.

Blast Wind was originally going to be a Tate arcade title called Inazuma Blade. Unfortunately, the arcade game was canned. I remembered seeing a screen shot of what looked like the AC version on the back of a TecnoSoft Saturn game manual once. Hopefully there's a proto of Inazuma Blade floating around somewhere- so it can end up MAMEd someday like Twin Qix and other titles we wouldn't have gotten to see.

Thanks to Zeether for that article. Good read.

It would be interesting, at least to see if it's as easy as Blast Wind on the Saturn. I remember playing it and 1ccing it on my first try. I didn't fool around with the options menu, though.

Erm... its 50 coins to every 1up and I wouldn't say Hyper Duel is as easy as Blast Wind. :p

</nitpicking>

Cool piece of info though about it originally being an arcade game. :)

Hmm...if this is true, then it'd solve the long-running debate as to whether Blast Wind was indeed originally an arcade title. If Zeether stops in, hopefully he'll let us know where he got his info.

Yeah, it's already been mentioned a couple years back on Shmups that someone said "Blast Wind" originated as the arcade game "Inazuma Blade." But until someone supplies evidence (and it'd be great if someone did), this is just recycled conjecture.

It was on a Youtube video of BW by Icarus that I found out this info, someone who commented on it said that it was originally planned to be called Inazuma Blade. No clue on whether this is true or not but it sounds legit, I mean, the options menu is called "Dip Switch"...

And I'll correct that coin thing right away :P

Included with one of the Thunderforce Gold Packs is a small screenshot of Blast Wind in true tate orientation.
I had a scan somewhere, but I think it's lost with all the other stuff that was on my old featheredwings.net domain.

^Awesome. Thanks for digging that up, nice to see BW in full TATE glory.

I was just about to check back in and say I'd looked up Hyper Duel's booklet, but that turned out to have a shot of regular cropped Blast Wind. You can just about make it out here, on the bottom-right:

Smells like a coverup (assuming the HD booklet came later)! :mrgreen: Someone high up at TS must've had a traumatic TV-tilting experience and vowed to expunge any and all TATE shenanigans from the company's output.

This could easily just be a cropped image for a magazine.

Well, there's the score/lives at the top of the screen, and also a "CREDIT" display up there as well. If it was really cropped, none of that stuff would be there.

Yup. I remember that topic. I also remember someone mentioning Blast Wind almost being under another title, other than "Inazuma Blade". What was it again?

Not necessarily as it was presumably in beta form, but I can see where the assumption would rise.
