Hello everyone! Haven't posted for a while, got lured over to the fighting game side for a while, but I am back so here goes. Have been discovering all the old great hori shmups on MAME (incredible, btw, can't believe I used to limit myself to vert), and along with those have of course started playing the Gradius series (1 and 2, 3 not so much and 4 unplayable). I was enjoying 2 the most until I spent a bit more time with 1. Then when I went back to 2, I realised it all seemed much, much slower. Suddenly, Vic needs 2 spd ups to move at any kind of decent speed, the enemies seem to move very slowly compared to 1, and the musics tempo has equally suffered. What struck me as strange is that none of this is very noticeable if you haven't played the first; everything seems to move at a pretty decent speed, the option orbs pulsate quickly enought, etc, etc.... Also your shots seem to take longer to clear the screen and you now fire fewer at a time, but I'll assume this is a design choice instead of an emu problem. Currently using Gradius II - Gofer roms under Vs. Gradius. I have found Jap. Old version to be slightly faster. Can anyone corroborate any of this?

I've played both enough via MAME, PSX, Saturn, PSP, and PCE/PCE CD, 2 doesn't seem any slower to me after playing the first game than any other time I've played them back to back.
