No Top 25 Best Shooters vote for this year?!

Post by ST Dragon »

Every year the annual vote for the best shooters commences on April 1st.
I did a quick search but found nothing related.

So, isn't there going to be one this year?

Sure, there's going to be one this year. We are preparing it at this very moment. We're a little late, because we need to organize things first. Unfortunately, I won't be able to run the voting this year, because my new employer doesn't allow me to access the internet during work hours, and running the yearly voting is pretty time consuming.

It's definitely on the way, though. Just have a little more patience.

Is something wrong with the search function?

EDIT: Apparently not.

I think the most recent year's results of the top 25 should be stickied. There's all these posts about 'whats the best shmups?' and the top 25 list gets referenced an awful lot. Seems like it's a good thing to sticky.

Gradius V was #1 last year?

Guwange at #10? Who even owns Guwange?

Absurdity.

Gradius V deserves it. Not FOREVER, but hey, it's once. Or did you want to see some more dodonpachi (yawn?).
Also, Guwange is pretty popular among MAME maniacs ;)
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Because you need to own an candy cab to play it properly as it was meant to be. Can't get any better than that. ^_~

And no love for classic Seibu Kaihatsu made shmups, Toaplan, Psikyo & others? Without Toaplan, there would be no Cave if you stop and mull a bit about that issue. ^_~

Fixed. It's fun, but overrated. Never heard of those other games .
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

We should incorporate that into the voting process. Maybe add Under Defeat to the blacklist above. The lists of the remaining voters should make a really interesting top 25.

EDIT: spelling

Why Under Defeat? You could add DoDonpachi though.

Maybe a "Veterans of the Top 25" section that shows previous winners. Voted back three times and they get on this list, which is excluded from the voting.

Would also keep new shmups in rotation, freeware and the like. Get them and some more obscure shmups some exposure.

Dodonpachi is the most fucking overrated game on this universe.

All joking aside, I hope this "ban" idea isn't actually being considered. It would leave the point of the list completely fubar.

I will be hosting the poll this year. The ban is a farce.

I cannot, however, make any firm promises against Ed Oscuro's recent suggestion.

Gradius V in 1st place? Interesting…
Obviously I didn’t keep track of the final scores. I was under the impression that DoDonPachi had won 1st place again for the 6th consecutive year!

It surprises me that Ibara even made it to the Top 25. The game felt like a short and lacking imitation of Shienryu.

Nah, it'd be way less interesting because it takes some kind of insane dude I'd respect for including those games (other than bandwagon RSG). You'd be screening out people like Ben Shinobi, CIT, and Ruldra, leaving more "me too" boring lists. To make it more interesting, better SNR of games to screen on would be Esprade and Imperishable Night and Blue Wish Resurrection. 8)

Note: this post has nothing to do with "good" lists, just "interesting."
