I've seen it for $45 or less in pristine condition at anime conventions... ...I guess if the disc is in fucking mint condition, then it'd be worth $74, but barely.

Yea $74 used is absurd. $50 mint complete is very doable.

$50 in person, $60 dollars online
[highest prices]

are my guidelines for that game.

Or if you do have a modded or an NTSC-J region PSX or PS2, then my suggestion is to get the SPS produced Dodonpachi version instead -- it's the better one of the two DDP ports available on both PSX and SS platforms. ^_~

I've seen it as low as $40 on ebay. Over $70 seems a little steep, that would be a good price for the PSX version.

Goes for around 3000yen used in Japan, so I would guess around $40 to import is fair?

...I'm gonna second this remark. I was being generous with the "$74 is just barely ok" bullshit.

Take it as a rule of thumb that most classics on Play-Asia are heavily overpriced.

Are we talking about the original 1st print release or the SaturnCollection release? I don't think it matters much to the player, but I've been seeing the original 1st print go for more than the SaturnCollection release. I bought my SC version for only $27 on eBay, back in 2003.
