ESPgaluda and ESP.ra.de's official capitalization?

Post by Zweihander »

For the longest time I've been typing ESPgaluda and ESP.ra.de, and well, seeing the many different versions of their spelling (mainly different capitalizations)... am I doing it right? Is the G capitalized? Or is it perhaps "Espgaluda"? What about ESP.ra.de? Is there an extra period at the end, or not?

Fucking CAVE...

For Rade, I'm pretty sure it's "ESP ra.de." as in "Raging Decide"abbreviated.

Ok, less about the spelling and more about the capitalization and possible punctuation. All-caps "ESPGALUDA" isn't helpful when most English titles in Japanese shmups are that way.

Gonna go drown some infants in an attempt to ease the pain of what I've been doing this whole time... Why, god, why... ...Fuck...

^Sad thing is, the sentiment of this post is not sarcasm. I feel like an idiot for mis-typing my second-favorite game's title.

I only bashed Ketsui: Demo Label, which was after I already pre-ordered two copies anyway. People sure get trolled easily around here. :)

As stated in another thread, I got this sealed Ketsui taking up space until the economy picks up and people start buying shit they don't need again.

I know people who pronounce Ikaruga "ik-CAR-rugguh" (CAR being the dominate syllable) and, on an unrelated note, HR Giger "HR GUYger". The fuck. Show some respect, the man invented the bio-mechanical art style...

I always get confused on his name and end up calling him "GUYger or geeger or jeeguh or however you pronounce it - yeah, the guy who created the alien from Alien".

On a totally unrelated note, I went to his gallery in Gruyère, Switzerland (quite by accident, I was there for other reasons, then saw it opposite the castle there and soiled my pants). It was fantastic seeing his work in real life.

Lucky bastard.

I still need to get my artbooks signed by him before the old man croaks...

Then Giger's artworks will be considered worth more when he does croak. As the creator of the original Alien creature, he does have my gratitude. Sure, some of his later art do use a mixture of alien bio-mechanical with sexual imagery. Anything goes and passes in the art world these days. ^_~

Err, and his earlier art, too (e.g. the 1967 work "Maedchen I"), a good 8 years before The Alien piece ("Necronom IV"). It's a recurrent theme.

I like his sculptures, too - the harkonnen chair was funky.

Oh, btw - this applet is good for searching for Giger's works:

I've never been to concerned about the spelling, it's pronunciation that's always got me. Luckily I don't know anyone in real life to talk about this stuff with.

There's nothing else to talk about because no one wants to. May as well talk about this.

For Japanese games with Roman titles, "official capitalization" tends to be all caps. "ESPGALUDA", "ESP RA.DE.", you know the drill. Not always, but usually; I'm sure these games apply.
