Any shmupers in Sourthern Virginia?
You'd be amazed at how many bullets you can dodge by simply standing still

I think it's just as much an obstacle putting together a good meeting spot. I live in a convenient spot where Route 10, 460, Highway 295 and Interstate 95 all intersect, but I don't have much to offer for entertainment at the moment other than my consoles. I have one arcade machine, but am still awaiting for the buttons to arrive for that...
Not too long ago though I invited some of my friends over for a shmup tournament where we played through shmups on the Saturn, Dreamcast, and PS2 in pairs and tallied up our scores.
I wouldn't mind hosting something if there was nowhere better, but since the drive would be an hour and a half whichever way we go it would have to be a worthwhile time. Between me and my friends we have the consoles and my nearly-finished cab. Maybe you have something to contribute I don't know. It would be great if we could get at least one more person... maybe someone who could contribute a supergun or an arcade cp or something to the fun.

I have a supergun and one cab (an MVS), but like you I don't have much to offer as far as shmups are concerned. I have R-Type Final, Castle Shikigami 2, Gigawing, plus Taito Legends 2. These are all on console.
Anything I can go to would have to be closer to the summer as I'm in school.
Don't give up hope though, it's a start

Re: Sourthern Virginia
You could always come to my gatherings
I've added Progear and Guwange to the collection, and I'm going to be adding Galuda II when my new astros arrive.

Re: Sourthern Virginia
I am in Central VA, Lynchburg to be exact, but all the shmups I can play are either on console or emulated on MAME.
The problem is, that I don't have a car, lol.

In the past, there have been a few meets in Southern VA on the Neo-Geo boards. Northern VA seems to have more meeting activity going on as far as arcades. Ilazul has been a great host. Sometimes its hard to make the drive all the way up to Arlington, but I'd recommend it if you have a ride with a friend and a weekend to spare. He has more cabs than I could ever dream of owning. (I'm up to 2 at the moment

I wish I could bring them down there as I love VA beach (I went to CNU and lived there for 2 years, I used to BBoy at Peabody's!). I've getting more shmup stuff here and there, the two new astros coming are going to be my deadicated shooter machines.
If you guys want to set up a trip date for a shmup meet, ya'll could even crash here. Between myself and a few friends we have a pretty decent shmup collection.
Re: Sourthern Virginia
You other NoVA folks should make it up to the meets at Kiken's in Gaithersburg. It's really not that far from NoVA at all.
We usually have a good selection of shooters, as between three or 4 of us we have lots of recent cave and other misc stuff + consoles.

I'm setting up something with Lite where you SoVA guys can share a trip up here.
Right now I've got Ibara BL, Galuda II, ESPrade, Guwange, Progear and Ikaruga.
My buddy ben should have his 360 mushihimesama futari, and I'll try and get Jason to bring his Pink Sweets (damn that sounds dirty). And Jeff might have his Radiant Silvergun by then. Pat's also got a lot of older shmups.
So hopefully we could do a nice event with a lot of shmups.
