Sounds like Rick Dangerous. Suddenly, I feel the urge to try that game.SockPuppetHyren wrote:The cliff kills you

And when you make it to the next screen, there's a cat that superpunches your bullets back at you. Dunno, maybe you're supposed to eye-shot it or jump over it.SockPuppetHyren wrote:The cliff kills you

When you die here, you get sent back to the first screen!
IWBtG is a poor imitation of Jinsei no Owata.
edit: I recommend using joytokey and a pad if you want to give Owata a go. It's a really interesting game, and you can even break it a little bit in weird ways sometimes, which is very satisfying because of how hard it is.

Has anyone got to the grey mecha birdo fight that has ikaruga boss music in the background? I died from laughter shortly after the fight began. same thing happened with the mecha zangief fight

If there were some way to fast forward past the extremely long frickin' boss intros I'd have beaten this already.
Internet tv lets me live through it vicariously though,

They're way cheaper. A screw up there doesn't cost you a mere 15 seconds, it costs you several minutes of your life.Davey wrote:The author is comparing this to Mega Man and Battletoads. I don't remember those being anywhere near as cheap as this game

Having some fun with Owata, but currently being raped by Air Man. Are his tornado spreads random, or is there some way I can manipulate them to get possible-to-dodge patterns? Sometimes I can get him to half health or so, but it's very dependent on how the tornado shotgun fires.

By the way, Yutori Mode has savepoints, quite the timesaver in games like this.

I dunno, there's something in my stubborn nature that really enjoys dying dozens of times to pass one 30 second section of the game =/ If save points weren't so frequent, I'd probably have given up by now, rather than clearing 3 bosses. I can play this game for longer stretches than Dodonpachi. I can only take so many stupid deaths on stage 4 or 5, wasting 15 minutes of play time, before it gets really infuriating. At least in IWBTG I feel like I'm making progress rather than stagnating.
I also giggle a little with every new and clever way that I get killed =) He manages to keep the death traps clever and unrepetative, which I find fairly impressive.

It's not about reflexes, it's about grueling memorization. Most (all?) of the deaths are unforeseeable, so every move you make is based on trial and error. If you get to a new level or boss in a shmup, you can use your instincts and reflexes to survive for a little while. That won't work here.Gungriffon Geona wrote:whiney babbies with no reflexes on a shoot em up board.
wow that's some ironic shit there.
I didn't get very far into the game, so I could be wrong. Maybe the later levels are more reflex-oriented?
A lot of the deaths in Battletoads are foreseeable, you just need a lot of practice to get the timing right. This game is actually worse about blindsiding you with death, even though the penalty for dying is much less. But yeah, Battletoads is probably a way bigger time sink.BryanM wrote:They're way cheaper. FWIW, though, I wouldn't have the patience Battletoads these days either.
Owata wouldn't be bad if I could just figure out the dang puzzles.
Go left:
Can't jump over the lolcat
Go right:
Can't jump past the chasm (standing on top of the highest box on the previous screen).
Getting to either screen isn't tough at all (especially if you go right!) but I just don't know what to do next. :(

...Wow, totally threw this topic off a bit.
I'm pretty sure a related site somewhere showed a map for the whole thing...
Ah, here it is. Heh...it's a walkthrough too.
The derivative mini-games aren't too bad either.
