Too bad nothing about Madworld is "adult". It has lots of blood and swearing, which means it's more likely to appeal to teens. I actually found it really juvenile, and I'm 20!Lordstar wrote:oooh look the wii got an 'adult' game![]()
I rented this. It's not bad, but got old after a couple hours.

the wii also has house of the dead overkill and no more heroes which are more adult orientated and piss funny imo.Lordstar wrote:oooh look the wii got an 'adult' game![]()

You probably weren't addressing me but I have to say I couldn't stand it. Yes it was stylish but the gameplay was awful. I played a burned copy to try it out and after 30 minutes threw the disc out.robthebanks wrote:Looks good. I've never played Killer 7, is it worth checking out? Is it just a stylish rail shooter?
No More Heroes, however, was awesome.

Awful gameplay I dont think so, No more heroes got repetitive very quickly so thats the worse of the two. Killer 7 felt fresh everytime you started a new level.kengou wrote:You probably weren't addressing me but I have to say I couldn't stand it. Yes it was stylish but the gameplay was awful. Killer7 is one of my favourite games of the last generation and the most politically subversive game ever made. Despite having mechanics based on a mix of rail shooter and third person action adventure, the game is set in a world that operates under such a unique and bizarre set of rules that it takes a couple of hours to get a feel for it. Unlike most rail shooters there is a different tactic required for defeating each of the enemy types, so it doesn't get stale. If you're in a mindset like Kengou and discard games quickly, you won't like it. But if you stick with it to the end I guarantee it will be an experience you won't forget.kengou wrote:You probably weren't addressing me but I have to say I couldn't stand it. that can be said with anything that makes you read between the lines though..
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Nah, it's just a Japanese thing. The whole "America is going to nuke us for no reason!" thing for instance. When it comes to war and memory I tend to take their stuff with a grain of salt. For example, there's Murakami Takashi, the guy behind the Superflat movement, claiming that Japan is a highly childlike culture and America forced it to be that way on purpose (instead of, y'know, the whole deep-brain appeal of moe images). Basically, a bunch of talk and talk.

Although for some obscuro reason the guy seems to hate me, I have to say that he sometimes speaks absolute truisms, and this is one of those times.Ed Oscuro wrote:When it comes to war and memory I tend to take their stuff with a grain of salt. It's easier to say 'those folks who made all those really awesome games before capcom killed the team' instead of 'that company no one's heard of but apparently they got cool shit going'.GrimoreLibrarian wrote:same thing.Gungriffon Geona wrote:fixed.GrimoreLibrarian wrote: Sega? For clarity's sake, since not everyone's gonna know the story behind that.

First, it should be pointed out that MadWorld has NOTHING to do with Killer 7 or No More Heroes. Perhaps its the Wii connection, I dunno...
Anyway, yes, the place to start making comparisons is God Hand, but unfortunately, this is not God Hand 2--in fact, it is a very different game that just happens to have inherited a few aspects of God Hand. I've only played about an hour, so if it turns out that the game becomes quite deep and sophisticated, I'll let you know.
What I am enjoying is a very flexible game engine that lets you work out lots of interesting ways to kill baddies, but your favorite kill-combo may not be the highest scoring combo. Instead, you'll find yourself digging around for that signpost to jam through someone's skull AFTER you've put a garbage can over their head or what-not. Like God Hand (and resident evil 4) a prompt will show up when you can execute a context-specific attack; but unique to MadWorld, 'Murder' is a regular option (sort of surprising.)
This is one of the few games where I find myself separating gameplay from the game itself, because I really do like the game engine (though the camera sucks for no good reason), but so far I can't say the game is doing that much for me. Looking forward to giving it more time.

I'm also 20, and I find it hilarious. Sure, it's not really "mature," but the ridiculous violence and vulgarity is more about humor than shock value.kengou wrote:Too bad nothing about Madworld is "adult". They both use violence as a means to hilarity, but the actual play is very different. God Hand is more of a technical game with a heavy emphasis on your character's basic moves (punching and dodging). MadWorld is more about context; you can saw everyone in half with the chainsaw, but you don't get points for it, and you need points to get to the boss and finish the stage (there's a time limit for each level). So you look around and find things to stab and stomp people with and you use them. Like, in the first level, you can ram a trash can over a guy's head, then impale him with he poles from 5 road signs, then finish him off by ramming him into a "rose bush," basically a wall of spikes, over and over. If it sounds sick, it is. But it's also completely hilarious.FIL wrote:The God Hand comparison is an obvious one but is it actually anything like it?
Also, the soundtrack in this game fucking rules. I really can't encourage people strongly enough to buy this game; despite being Japanese-made, it's not coming out there, so for once the western sales will actually make a difference.

Thanks for clearing this up (a few days ago, I read it then but just had another thought about it).CMoon wrote:First, it should be pointed out that MadWorld has NOTHING to do with Killer 7 or No More Heroes. Perhaps its the Wii connection, I dunno...
I think it's the Capcom connection: Clover did God Hand, and Grasshopper Manufacture did Killer7 / No More Heroes. Both were outside developers after all.
