Shoryuken

Post by mr_m0nks »

For the life of me I can not seem to do this move. Doesn't matter what the controller is, whenever I try I just seem to get a fireball.

Is there some technique I can learn or use?

p.s. this is on Hyper SFII PS2

I'd agree, but I can't do it consistently.

The easiest way is to do it right. What you do is tap Forward quickly then immediately hit down, then you roll your thumb to the diagonal-forward position, so it's just below Forward, then you immediately hit a punch button. So it's tap F, immediately hit D, roll your thumb to the side to input DF + P.

Just tap forward and then immediately throw a fireball.

It was the same for me when I started, here's what I figured out to do it no problem : instead of simply pushing forward, down, diagonal and then release, HOLD the diagonal in the end while pressing punch.

It's stupid but it totally worked for me, the reason why I kept doing fireballs unpurposely was because when releasing the diagonal, I tended to release the "DOWN" part of the diagonal, making it like I had pushed "FORWARD" last, and the game interprets the whole input as fireball. Now I barely ever get it wrong, even though I barely ever play fighters.

Try it!

Same for me. Holding the last diagonal anytime, even when Ryu is flying makes me feel like superman.

This way works but it doesn't come out fast enough. Not recommended.
Prom's way is best imo.

Try to learn yourself some twitch reaction!
Perhaps press forward with the tip of your thumb -
then let the base of your thumb do the | and \ movement!
he you will get this: -|\
Not sure if this will help.

Do the motion fast. The shoryuken is always first on the overlapped input priority list so it technically doesn't matter where you end it if you're pretty quick on the draw.

Just sit in training mode, there's no real trick to it. More modern fighters take 6236 as a DP, which is good unless you tap forwards and try to do a fireball.

stupid ass street fighter 4 will actually take 33+p as an srk motion. also 313+p. if i had a nickel for every "accidental" ex-srk i got instead of an ultra i'd have a couple dollars by now. never had any such problem in third strike or super turbo

btw, don't use the above shortcuts, as they don't work in any other game and these shortcuts will lead to bad habits.

The only way to win at Street Fighter is to not play it. Had to learn that the hard way.

The Z technique is the best one.

I have no problems with controllers, but to this day I can't perform the shouryuken in an arcade when I'm playing on the right side... :?

If you input the super combo command in ST without meter (QCFX2) it will also shoryuken.

The Z technique is the best one.

EDIT: Just gone back to it and I think my offering was a bit basic in description, it is more of a sharp Z movement as mentioned above.

It's all in the wrist tho mate.

I'm getting better, I can do it 1 in 3 attempts approximately. easier with Sagat for some reason?!

Finding the PS2 controller a bitch though.

PS2 and 360 d-pads are garbage. Get a saturn pad, or better yet, an arcade stick.

There's your problem. Consistently hitting diagonals on a Dual Shock is basically impossible, because the d-pad (such as it is) doesn't even *have* diagonals. Not ones that you can press properly.
