Classic.

Anyway, yeah, GGPO and 2DF are the heavyweights right now (both use nFBA, which has no input lag compared to MAME although it does have some graphical tearing and similar speed issues). They're way smoother than Kaillera. If you haven't played since Kaillera, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, esp. by GGPO (which is smoother for most games than 2DF but is also buggy and doesn't have nearly as many titles).

Feel free to get at me on GGPO for any ST.

2DF is pretty great, glad to give my HRAP some use for the fighters. Granted, all I play right now is Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3. It took me a while to figure out how to properly do a shoryuken with that stick, but now I'm getting better. Would love to play anyone in the states or Canada as latency is best there for me.

Breakdown:

GGPO:

- 'Lagless' netcode for all games, including CPS3 (CPS3 at least dual core cpu recommended, no old shit)
- Less games than 2DF (has basically the most popular ones)
- Live spectating
- Generally better competition

2DF

- 'Lagless' netcode for everything except CPS3 games (SF3 series and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure). CPS3 uses normal latency-based p2p, which can be fine, but you will notice some input lag if you are more than a few states away.
- Pretty much every single neo/cps/[some other hardware] game you'd want to play online.
- Keeps replays of every session played on the site, but no live spectating
- Generally less skilled competition when it comes to games that are also on GGPO

Thanks, I was thinking of GGPO but nice to know about alternatives.

I'd do it in real life but can't figure out how to shoot fire from my palms

I'll install and configure the shit later in the week when I have more spare time. Let's fight

I feel for you, man (no homo). I'm sorta disillusioned with SFIV now so after I attempt to rise back to the top of the PSN scoreboard for the patched STHD while dealing with silly lag, I'll be back on GGPO for some more realistic ST practice. Oh, and I use JP names so yeah, not using him goes without question. :)

I used both and both are pretty much super user friendly.
So worth a try for those that expect a hassle to set it up!
Fierce players indeed. I got alot of ass handling back to me.
Still crushed some players though!

I think as long you have dualcore, you're fine.

Hmm, there aren't any options to configure the emulator in GGPO's options menu. It also says Third Strike isn't supported, yet I was able to join a game...

go into your ggpo folder in program files, and launch ggpofba.exe. that's the emulator itself (running offline). configure your shit, and it should keep those settings when you're online

I'm not on every day anymore but if any of you see "Alec" on GGPO feel free to send me a holler.

I mostly play Super Turbo and 3rd Strike with a little Xmen V sF for old time sake. 3rd Strike not as much as I like cause the CPS3 emulation overheats my old lap top i use.

I've been meaning to get back to Super Turbo on this since Remix has A) shitty graphics B ) Lots of bad players C ) more lag than GGPO.

Thanks

I got the emulator working offline but when I challenge or get challenged, it opens a window that has the ggpo logo and the game doesn't load. Occasionally it also says 'press t to chat'

Another thing: Should I configure the same controls for player 1 and 2 in case I'm player 2 in an online game?

don't worry about the controls. i did the same thing, only configured 1P side, and it's cool either way :)

you're either not being patient enough for it to load the game up (give about 10-15 seconds before closing the window), the connection between you and the other player is not strong enough (ie someone from hal-way round the world, or dial-up etc), or you haven't forwarded your ports properly.

can you spectate other peoples games with no problems?

Another O.T. post, but what frontend do people use for these online games? Or do I even need one? I think I have MAMEUI32 ver 1.30 right now, but it keeps running in a window (even though the run in windowed option is turned off)... Any help?

Both GGPO and 2DF use Final Burn Alpha (you do not have to download it seperately). So after you've logged in and selected what game you want to play, they will both launch FBA automatically.

Yo, good games, Alec. And yeah, for that match, I think Chun Li has to try and dominate the ground somehow. When you score a knockdown, you should be able to get a nice chunk of damage from tick mixups. That, or try to turtle and anticipate wall dives.
