I think I need to take a few weeks to try and beat a shmup I hate.
My target game will be X-Dazedly Ray.
Anyone else going to pledge to the torture challange? Pick a shmup game you think is really crappy and try to clear it.
Please stick to the lesser known games if possible.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

You kidding? I can't even clear the shmups I LOVE, there's no way I'd be able to clear the ones I hate!

That's a cool idea, Pixel_Outlaw!
I'm also fond of beating games no one wants to even touch.
Can I also try XDR X-Dazedly Ray on the Mega Drive? I never played it.
We could compare our final scores afterwards.

First contact with XDR done.
I died facing the 6th boss - because my ship simply disappeared! I saw my shield going away and then again a flicker from hell and I don't know where I was anymore!
I'll try again tomorrow, I need some sleep.

There are plenty of ugly and terrible little shmups waiting to be claimed in the Xenocide Files.

That strategy doesn't work on the boss. He's unbeatable.

It's isometric. I'm a big fan of Platine Dispositif myself, and I love their games. I actually went out of my way to track them down and purchase them, including REE. But uh.. it's just so frustrating. Maid Samba is also pretty frustrating due to the 8bit Castlevania controls, but I think it's intentional.
Anyway, REE is difficult and I find it frustrating to play. As with Hitogata Happa, you can get yourself trapped with absolutely no way of getting out due to lack of bombs/dolls/health.

Seriously. I rarely make it past the first minute of the game before practically chucking the controller across the room.

I did this all the time on my old NES as a child. Not just with shmups, but the shmup that comes to mind is Thundercade (NES version of coures) which was horrible. It's hard to believe I put myself through that. But the satisifaction of beating such games could not be better!
