Is this PS2 to Jamma board any good?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

On the arcadeshop site, there is a PS2 to Jamma encoder interface listed. How good is it and can it accept RGB input signal? And how are the PS2 player controls inputted into this encoder? It mentions something about a built-in timer clock for pay-for-play on a timed basis, is there any way to disable it?

PCEFX, I'm sure this comes with the cables for video (RGB) and P1+P2 joysticks. You can see the molex connects on the PCB for this. I don't think you'd need to do any hacking as long as that unlimited timer dip switch setting turns off the video overlay as well (this was the main problem with the MGCD pcb).

Anyway, there is a link there on the order website to ask questions. I'd ask if the video and joystick cables are included, as well as if the disabled timer means it will not show any timer video overlay on the screen.

I'm curious about this as well, as I have the Ultimarc solution (control adapters + J-Pac) and that doesn't deliver perfect video sadly and no audio at all. As this is in all included solution, it does look very cheap as well as handy.

Please report any findings on this. I'm also interested in getting my hands on a good PS2 to JAMMA solution.

You can disable the time limit by changing the dip switches. It comes with an "AV cable" and two cables that connect the controller ports.

When you disable the time limit does it disable the screen overlay that shows you how much time is left? (or does this one not even have that?)

i've got a different one called a time master without dip switches but has a jumper so you can get to the options.. it plays with no timers or overlays on the screen but has the usual controller faults such as triggers sticking /2p problems etc.. it works well with all the cave ports i tried (you might have to disable the triggers in a games option if your ships are firing with no button pressed) the video and sound is very good and if your using it just for d.o.j and espagaluda then its perfect.. gradius v works perfect on it too.. i had a lot of troubles playing capcom generations packs or the taito ones and fighting games dont usually work so good either!
