that would work with your setup but im not so sure if it would improve the image quality at all....more likely it would look WORSE....

with upscanners you get what you pay for and that one you linked is pretty cheap

you should look into something like an XRGB2 or something along those lines.....

i could be wrong tho....maybe somebody with experience with that upscanner can say otherwise.....

Since jonny5 recommends that you pick up an XRGB-2 and a Scart cable setup for use with your PS2 console and you're in business. The XRGB-2 has the obligatory "fake" scan lines options for completeness on them LCD-type of screens ("scan lines" that would be present if you were using a true low-resolution 15kHz RGB CRT-based monitor). ^_~

But since you already live the UK, clp, you have no trouble getting access to a cheap-ass CRT-based telly with built-in RGB Scart input for true 15.7kHz purity. Your eyes will notice the extra detail and sharpness afforded by going this particular route. I have to admit that playing console and arcade PCBs on an LCD-based monitor, especially the low-res ones anyways, look like shit. CRT-based RGB monitors for the win IMO. Even though the Japanese arcade cabinet manufacturers are starting to use more LCD-based monitors with them arcade PCBs, and leaving the old standbys of the bigger and heavier CRT-based RGB monitor candy cabs with no suitable 27"-29" sized 4:3 type LCD screen replacements -- that's the way how technological progression works (and the so-called "planned obsolescence" train of thought of manufactured goods comes into play). So be it. ^_~

In the USA, before the old standbys of general CRT-based TV monitors were discountinued, A/V manufacturers, never did include Japanese Scart inputs because they thought that general public was quite content with RCA composite video, and S-Video (and later component video) inputs back in the day. Of course, the die-hard console gamers and Supergun owners had to look high & low to find an appropiate true low-res RGB monitor to get their kicks on...you gotta do what you gotta do to get the best picture quality for the sake of the console/arcade PCB gaming hobby. ^_~

While I trust Hori to get the deinterlacing for low-res signals right, I would never choose this unit since it has neither component nor RGBs input.

CLP: which connection are you running right now from your PS2 to your LCD? It probably all depends on your current connection quality which machine you need to achieve a better look. If you're using S-Video right now, you could get a cheap device like a HDBoxPro which will accept component and convert it to VGA. If you're running component already with halfway decent results you probably really need a XRGB to gain something.

couldnt you just get a component scart to rgb adaptor and use the HDBOX pro? and even do this for a supergun which also uses scart?

The HDBoxPro can't do 240p from anything else than a PS2, so no RGB to YUV converted from a Supergun or a Saturn... there's a chance that a few setups work, but the majority won't.
