I've discovered a "bug" of sorts in Pulstar. In stage 4 when you pass the giant "cargo ship" that's drifting above you, you enter a zone where rocks start falling at you diagonally from the upper right, then a "blue walker" comes up from behind, and the ship starts to pass you up. At the front of the ship are two large guns (above what seems to be a suspended flight deck). Then you have to deal w/ two sustained-laser guns shooting downward in order to safely enter the zone under the ship again where ships start tumbling out of the lower hatches - well, shortly after that there is a POW walker dude that leaps out from the front of the lower-right of the screen; he produces a "B" bomb - that purple cluster bomb that is governed by the direction your ship is moving...

The glitch: if you had destroyed those two frontal-firing guns on the ship, that POW will not appear! I'm going to experiment w/ it more today and knock out only one gun - and then the other on the next try to see if anything different happens, but for now I'm sure of that glitch...try it and see!

Have you discovered any highly unnoticeable glitches, easter eggs, bugs, precarious patterns in shmups? If so, post them here!

edit: No, you can shoot one of the two guns, but not both if you want the cluster bomb...which, incidentally, you can probably do just fine without - but that homing missle right before the boss is a great addition. :wink:

when playing gradius recently i was near the bottom of the sreen on level 5 (the level with the shooting tentacles), which is usually where i try to stay as the tentacles tend to bend upward. anyway i couldn't destroy one of them that was above me near the top of the screen so i ignored it as it went by. well the thing had it's tentacle just past the top of the screen and it must have been firing bullets that got screen wrapped as shortly afterwards a fucking bullet came out of no where from the bottom of the screen and killed me. BULLSHIT'D!!!

In Salamander (arcade version) you can hit the asteroids on stage 2 with missiles and safely pass over them without getting killed.

Something else I discovered today: in that same area in Pulstar Stage 4 when the "suspended flight deck" shows up (right before the falling asteroids) and you're boxed-in and you have to kill those two wobbling guns to get past it...I discovered you CAN fly through a hole right above the flight deck! You really don't even have to deal w/ those guns. A lot of times if you're getting happy w/ the "flip laser" and you destroy the POW walker inside the ship, subsequently missing the "C" icon that decreases your charge-time. Well, now you don't have to, cause you can pick it up as you're flying through that hole! Try it out!

30,000 point technical bonus post!

So far the Retro Game Challenge shooters seem fairly solid (I did have Stage 8B's boss glitch out on me in Haggle Man 2, he was just flying across the screen with nothing to stop him and would pass through me, nothing could damage him either. But that's not a shmup.)
