CRT monitor problem

Post by moozooh »

Hi there.

Currently I'm using a CRT monitor for all my PC needs, including shmupping and browsing this forum (so not completely offtopic). It's a 19-inch Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB.

Recently I've started to notice some odd signal degradation expressed mostly in quick ripples across the whole screen and geometric distortion as if subjected to a magnet or a ringing cellphone. Degaussing does help somewhat, but sometimes it just tries to roll the whole image up into a thin line at the center.

I've been meaning to record a video of it in process, but it didn't happen the one time I wanted it to. I'll try again the next time it tries that shit.

Oh, and I have tried isolating the monitor from all sources of EM radiation and also checked all the connectors. Everything seems fine, as it has been for a year prior.

Here's the video I recorded today. Hope someone knows what causes this and what to do with it. >_>

It sure looks like there is noise in the power line, are you using this with a surge protector? If that is not the problem I would think there is something wrong with the power supply, but not so much if it comes and goes like this.

Yeah, my power strip is surge-protected; I've tried all the connectors to see if they're out of proper contact, but it isn't the case. The only thing that came close to this kind of distortion is a ringinig cellphone at a close distance.
