Radio Zonde Help

Post by robthebanks »

Okay, so I downloaded Radio Zonde last night but when I try to run the "shoot.exe" file it tells me that:

"This application has failed to start because D3DRM.DLL was not found."

I'm running Vista (barf) which I thought may be the issue, so I tried different compatabilities but for some reason it still didn't work. Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone have D3DRM.DLL?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, D3DRM.DLL is only contained in W2k & XP IIRC.
You could download the file & place it in the \SYSTEM32 folder, but unless there's a way to load it manually, I don't think it will work.

I would try it anyway; you never know...

Yeah, the best thing to do here is to find that file somewhere on the web. It has been taken out of Vista (dunno why). I reckon it's DirectX related (probably not part of the regular DirectX packages) which would unsurprisingly break something.

Even better (or worse?), you could downgrade to XP. Apparently, Microsoft did this for you for free, or at least they did for most of last year.

A free downgrade? Definitely going to have to check it out...

IIRC, this only applies to Vista Business and Vista Ultimate, and only OEM versions and corporate licensees, not retail (although the generic OEM versions should be eligible). Anyway, it's basically prestidigitation to make their Vista sales look better than they really are; they sell Vista licenses to OEMs and corporate customers and then let quietly let them install XP or 2K instead. That way they can go to the shareholders/press and say "See? Vista is a success! We sold 4923749832 Vista licenses!"

I could sworn "normal" customers could do the same (or at least they used to). Someone here even started a discussion on it.
