So if I'm not using HDLoader, is there any reason to use this over Xploder? Is it more compatible at all?
just as he writes on the info page. It's the same mechanism like the Exploder bootdisc, but some games make problems with TSR (memory resident programs in the background).
2. How does it compare to deinterlacing patches for Mushi/Ibara/whatever?
this is the other direction. While the patches take those games from 480i to 240p, this patch tries to enable 480p output (for HD displays).

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. So I guess the question now is, when a game doesn't work with Xploder, how do I know if it's because of the TSR? Do I just have to test this out and see?

I think he just didn't say EDTVs also because it would obviously be included. It will work with EDTVs just as any other 480p signal would. So yes, use it on your 480p capable display, but for Mushi and Ibara, stick with the deinterlacing trick if you prefer the arcade look to line doubled with no scanlines.
It's a command line tool. If you double click on it, the windows command window pops up and closes again. You need to run it from a prompt with the proper argument.
Does it work on Mushihimesama, and if so, does it look better than the 240p patch on a low res screen? I've heard that running it on a HDTV using component does actually look good.
I'm going to try this out on a few games. I wasn't able to get HDXploder to work with Sengoku Basara X or Arcana Heart so I'll see how this fares. A quick note about Gradius V in 480p. If the attract video plays, the game freezes up for me. Does the same thing happen to anyone when using this method?
Fudoh wrote:Yes, same situation on G5 over here, but since G5 works excellent with the HDTV Exploder I simply use an unpatched version with the Exploder bootdisc.

A low-res screen (15khz) is not able to handle a 31khz input.
Yes, I'm aware of this. I have a tri sync cabinet. I re-phraze my question:
Does Mushihimesama look better on a 31kHz screen patched to run in 480p than a 240p patched Mushihimesama on a 15kHz screen?

now I haven't tried patching it, but if it worked, it would look the same just without the thick scanlines. The problem in Mushi & Ibara is the filtering and the tiled backgrounds and this won't change.

The reason I ask is that someone said that Musihimesama looked way better (sharper) when run with a component cable on a HDTV than using the RBG output on the same HDTV. If this is true, then perhaps there's "some" logic behind Taito or whoever put those pretty filters on the game.

many HDTV Sets with RGB Scart input treat RGB as FBAS while component is kept - well - component. Samsung TVs come to mind, they can really mess up a good RGBs input.
How can I find out if Battle Gear 2 works with this method?
It does not work with the HDtv xploder when I force it into 480p.
Is there hope that it will work with this method?
I do not have a ps2 (yet) so I want to first see if it is at all possible.
Same for Battle Gear 3, is it possible?
Is there a japanese version of the HDtv xploder?
Could I test it in an emulator?
