Xbox 360 - It has Begins!!!

Post by zer0eight »

Just saw the MTV premiere for the Xbox 360 seemed to be sweet.. what they showed of it lol. If you want a good look at the system design and controller check out it's new web site;

http://www.xbox360.com

I will more than likely snag one during it's launch later this year. Laters

The games looked good for first gen stuff on a new platform, and IMO the system looked better seeing it in motion rather than in pictures.

The whole in-your-face-pop-culture-mtv-bullshit presentation of the program bugged me though.

Holy cow, that thing looks like a PC tower drive! I couldn't tell by the photos whether or not it's tray-based; anyone know??

Ipod-izing everything is NOT cool. Wonder if it's just as big as the first Box.

Sorry. I'm in a nasty mood right now.

I was laughing at the title. I like it -- keep it like that.

Have any sites posted vids from the show? Any torrents out there?

I doubt it Gajin, but we don't have much longer to wait until E3-it starts on the 16th. :D I'm sure there will be more of everything on the XBOX 360 during and after E3.

I couldn't agree more. There was about thirty seconds where you actually saw the console (assuming that you hadn't already seen the leaked XBox360 pics over at Engadget or The Magic Box), and the rest of the program was three minutes total of game footage shown in a bunch of two second clips, edited MTV style (i.e., no more than seven seconds of footage without a cut/jumpcut).

As for the XBox360, I'll leave my impressions of it for a future rant...

It certainly looks silmmer then the first XBOX. I just wanna know if it's tray-based or not. One thing that worries me about the controller-the analog sticks are placed diagonally across from one another-I don't think that's gonna feel to comfortable or work to well, with most games.

And, IMO, you're right about the "Ipod-izing"; no need to apologize for that statement!

I don't like it either, but it's all only meant to be a "teaser" of sorts; like I said before, we won't have much longer to wait to see and hear more about this console.

It was a marketing gimmick, and as that, the show worked fine. Sega did a few of these things in their heyday.

As for the actual system, Perfect Dark Zero looks ugly (like... worse than Halo 2), but it supports 50 players per map. Hmm.

Maybe I'm becoming an eccentric old fart, but I HATE "MTV Pop Culture".
I don't need Lil Jon to sell me an XBOX 2!!!
I hate the way video games have become so fucking trendy! Video games are my hobby...MINE I TELL YOU!!! Now, the whole world wants to be "cool" and "hip" wit da gamez.

Remember the old days when Atari ruled? There were no "pop trendy assholes" in comercials...hell, there sure wasen't any TV programs out there dedicated towards hyping it up any either.
Whats next, a Three Ring Circus!??

Same.

Some people do. This kind of thing is meant to sell to the casual gamer who doesn't even know this thing exists, not to us.

You can blame Sega for really getting the ball rolling on this, you know.

The commercials still tried desperately to be "cool" though. Go download a clip of the Megamania ad.

I agree. MTV is bullshit. As for the XB360, I'm not too impressed with it so far. Sure, I might be impressed later, but as of now, some of the stuff (like DOA4) looks like it could have been done on the first XB. Did Microsoft rush the XB360? Yes, and I'm waiting to see if it really will get them the third-party jup they expect. Sure, right now developers say that they're behind the system and this and that, but when it comes down to it developers will end up making more for Sony than anyone else. If it doesn't end up like this, I will be surprised; could Microsoft have Japanese big-gun developers seeing more dollar signs than Sony?

Everything about it so far seems... underwhelming.

Other than the looks and specs, that is.

What did you expect? :P

The last system I can remember that had interesting launch games was the Dreamcast. None of the current gen systems had particularly interesting games at launch (yes, I'm ignoring Halo).

The content will probably become interesting a year after launch. Until then, it'll be like most new systems in that it'll be a pretty and powerful hunk of plastic until then.

Were Gun Valkyrie and JSRF launch games?

Still no hard confirmation (or not) that the machine will be backwards compatable. It's going to be a big issue if they want to sell lots of them early on - as one of the biggest Live titles yet is due to be released as late as July - Rainbow Six Lockdown, for the current gen xbox. Black Arrow has been out for ages, and it's still one of the busiest games on Live. To tempt people to shelve their copies of R6 and Forza to play games on the new system, is going to take some very good games indeed.

Same here, plus, I think most of my money will be going towards Saturn imports anyway. The newly released games and consoles just doesn't cut the mustard anymore and I'm tired of gambling my money away on them.

Actually, a buddy on my LJ list showed a frontal shot of both systems and it appears that the curvature of the X-Box 360 is actually desgined to allow it to sit on top of the original X-Box's curved surface. Now, I don't stack my consoles... I would think that doing so would heighten the likelyhood of one of them (if not both) overheating very quickly.

Isn't the Xbox 360 backwards compatiable? Even though it doesn't have a hard drive?

Not that really give a crap about the next-gen consoles anyway, espeically ones made by Microsoft.

I really feel that the videogame industry is just going to get worse with each new generation of systems.

PS3 is just another "upgrade"

Microsoft is trying to take over the world as usual, pushing Xbox 360 (which is a really stupid name for a console) out the door as quickly as they can

Nintendo's digging themselves an early grave with their weird little Revolution.

I miss the good old days........

well according to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm :

Personalized interface: Xbox 360 lets you create your own unique system and experience. With interchangeable Xbox 360 Faces, it's easy and fun to change the appearance of your console. Switch on your system and customize the look and feel of the Xbox Gamer Guide and Xbox System Guide with unique "skins." From sleek and sophisticated to fun and funky, pick the Faces and skins that show your personality.

so hopefully i can switch the case out for somehing less... white.

other than that i like the new controller.

I used to agree with you. In fact, I only got an xbox because my favourite online PS2 game died (nobody left to play). Modern gaming is different to be sure. There are a lot of bad games (there have always been a lot of bad games), but now we are expected to pay more to find out, and the hype machines are far larger than the old days. There is less diversity, and arcade style gaming is almost dead. It's a shame the market demands Madden 2012 and Extreme BMX ATV Spazothon 2.4, because as long as they buy it, the companies (including *spit* EA *spit*) will oblige by producing the tonnes of crap, and hyping it into the upper atmosphere.

That all sucks. I hate Microsoft (I work in IT) with a passion. I dislike their company, I dislike their ethics, and I dislike the absolute trash they've forced into the marketplace for years.

However, if you want fair online gaming that works, with minimal outlay (comparatively), you have one option, called the X-Box. X-Box Live is one of the best things to happen to games, ever. They did get that bit right.

We, the arcade gamers (who remember when games actually allowed you to lose), are just bitter because we used to be that sheepish gaming public, and the mainstream has largely stopped feeding us.

http://www.xbox360.com wait for the intro then in the bottom right.

bloodflowers wrote:They're wireless for starters, which puts me off them totally.
maybe. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/perip ... tsheet.htm has a wired controller listed.
and on that note i have no idea about bacwards compatibility but from the x-box live button in the center of the controller and the fact that the black and white buttons have been moved to a second set of shoulder buttons i'd guess no.
