First New Joss Whedon Series Since Buffy/Angel/Firefly
First New Joss Whedon Series Since Buffy/Angel/Firefly
The long wait (5 years) for a new show by Joss Whedon is about to end: Dollhouse will premier on Fox (urgh) in two weeks (February 13, 2009).
Starring Eliza Dushku (who played "Faith" in Buffy). It's a sci-fi thriller about agents ("dolls") who can be reprogrammed to become anyone, and whose memories are erased after each assignement, leaving them without personality. However, one of the dolls, Echo (Dushku) is slowly starting to become aware of herself.
Looking forward to it? I certainly am. Too bad it's on Fox, which probably means bad timeslot and early cancellation, as usual.

Sounds like the latest Terminator tv show on fox. The chick in the commercial even looks somewhat like Summer Glau. I bet this'll be canceled before it reaches the end of season 2 (if it even gets that far). Not to say it's going to be bad... but just that this is fox.Ceph wrote:The long wait (5 years) for a new show by Joss Whedon is about to end: Dollhouse will premier on Fox (urgh) in two weeks (February 13, 2009).

"I think Ikaruga is pretty tough. It is like a modern version of Galaga that some Japanese company made."
Yes, it's Fox. I just learned that it will air on Friday nights, 9pm. That's basically the timeslot of death; even if the show is great.
Why do they even bother to produce a series like this, where each episode costs more than a million dollars, just to show it at a time when no-one is watching?!
Oh well, they days of broadcast TV financed by commercials are numbered.

It's the same time slot that both Firefly and The X-Files had. If I remember correctly, The X-Files remained on the same slot for all seasons. I've seen some promo footage (teaser trailer) on YouTube I think and it does look good.
Will "tune in" for this too.

I think you mean James Cameron's Dark Angel, which was nothing like this and which featured a different actress (Jessica Alba).D wrote:thanks for the heads up. I will follow the plot via mininova.
There already was a show like this. with the same chick. She was some kind of bionically enhanced human?
Or Bionic Woman, staring some brittish actress (this is very common now in the US, I guess finding fresh faces for shows is hard these days). Also with that chick that plays Kara Trace in BSG. Was pretty good (far better than Sarah Connor crapicles IMHO) but got cancelled after one season.Ceph wrote:I think you mean James Cameron's Dark Angel, which was nothing like this and which featured a different actress (Jessica Alba).D wrote:thanks for the heads up. I am starting to think that you really will watch anything. That dialogue on that show was beyond awful. Even that Knight Ridder remake was a masterpiece compared to that schlock.Ceph wrote:That Bionic Woman remake didn't even get one season, in usual NBC tradition it got cancelled after merely 8 episodes.

One single disc? That's awfully pessimistic. The n00b wrote:I'm a big joss whedon fan but I'll wait for the DVD box set, collecting the entire series run on one convenient disc.

PS.
I hope you aren't part of that idiotic Nielsen rating system, otherwise I'll kick your ass if the show turns out to be good and gets cancelled.
I never watched Bionic Woman. I saw it got cancelled quickly, so I never even bothered. The thing I don't get is, if it was that awful, why did it even get greenlit? Why spend millions on a show and then cancel it after 8 episodes? The n00b wrote:I am starting to think that you really will watch anything. That dialogue on that show was beyond awful. Sometimes you owe people in the industry some favors. Bionic Woman was probably the pet project of a certain executive who was dating the producer. You can't just say no to someone like that so you gotta "give it a chance."Ceph wrote:I never watched Bionic Woman. I saw it got cancelled quickly, so I never even bothered. Just look at the new Knight Ridder. The whole show is a gigantic commercial for GM. It's most likely already canceled but who cares? NBC already has GM's money.
edit: I got tired of the sig thing. You already know who typed this post so who cares right?

The X-Files was moved to Sunday evenings after 3 seasons or so. I think it's the only show that started out on Fox's Friday evening slot that survived for any length of time.emphatic wrote: If I remember correctly, The X-Files remained on the same slot for all seasons.

So, what do you guys think about it? I give it 3/5. Feels a bit overly explained, but not too much. Seems like that guy in the toilet is a regular on the show as well. I'll give it at least 4 more episodes...

I checked out the much hyped-up Dollhouse pilot episode...interesting that main Doll (Miss Dushku) has excess baggage -- she remembers a bit about her past. Reminds me of Blade Runner with the motley crew of Replicants all acting up because their lifespan is coming to an eventual end + artificial memory implants. ^_~
You'd think that those Dolls would be the ultimate bad-ass killing machines just like the Terminators but seem to be infused with human-like quirks and qualities. It sure looks great presented on off-the-air HD format and in glorius letterbox presentation to boot. ^_~
