Games You Are Looking Forward to in 2009
Can't wait for:
- Resident Evil 5
- Street Fighter 4
I think it's impossible for RE5 and SF4 to not live up to expectations. Even if they didn't, they'd be great if they are half as good as their predecessors so no worries there.
Wait and see:
- God of War 3
Previous 3 GoW were great, but Sony needs more than pretty graphics to win me over a 4th time. The formula has already gotten old.
- House of the Dead Overkill
I saw some videos and the pace was kind of slow. I'm not bothering with it if it's not arcade-like fast and hard.
- next gen Castlevania
Next gen Castlevania could be great since Alucard is back in the driver's seat. What worries me is that it's 3D and considering the pedigree...
- Sin and Punishment 2 (Wii)
No info about the developer worries me and the character design make me want to puke.
- Punch Out (Wii)
Graphics style sucks ass, possible waggle controls and almost every new Nintendo game being family-friendly-easy brings the excitement down a lot.
- Dragon Quest 9
I just don't like the direction they're going with this game. It feels like a MMORPG and I hate those.

Don't write off DQ9 yet! It's still turn based and the (Japanese) fans are still calling the shots. I betcha it will still be quite traditional.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote: - Dragon Quest 9

I'm with you on SF4 and RE5--don't have a playstation 3 yet, but these could be titles that make me cave in.
Personally I'm looking forward to DQ5 & 6 on the DS.

Re: Games You Are Looking Forward to in 2009
Never gave a shit about the Alucard-era CV games, but whatever. I'll hope it's good and stuff.
Some stuff I'm looking forward to not being complete garbage:
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Ghostbusters (3)
I watched some video of RE5 on the official site a month or two ago and was surprised that it didn't impress much. Looked like they were using the same control system, and enemies seemed to be doing the same stupid slo-mo advance routine. Second character idea holds some promise; we'll see. Contextual gap-jumping? lol.
I'm sure there's other stuff but I can't think of it at the moment. Valve doesn't seem set to release anything new for a while, so I'll settle down there.

The developer is Treasure. What else do you need to know about it?UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:

I didn't much like the character design in the original, but it didn't bother me THAT much.

your commitment to the Castlevania franchise almost brings a tear. However, more than the choice of a protagonist, a better motivation might have been this one - let me rephrase it for you:
I bought castlevania for all these years, even when they did nothing but recycling graphics. For this reason, and for this alone, I am interested to see what they'll do with the next too. I can always criticize it later for the big pile of poop it's probably going to be.
You're too smart to think that using Alucard as protagonist is going to fix all the issues Iga's team still has when it comes to 3D.

Alucard is a kewl character and can't imagine him in a shitty game.
It's my personal bloody opinion. If you don't like it, you can always shove your head in your ass so you don't have to read it.

Me tooNecronopticous wrote:Muramasa. Come on, guys.

I am also interested in Ar Tonelico 2 and Mana Khemia 2.
I am also looking forward for the day that Gran Turismo 5 comes home…
There are others I look forward to, but I am tired now and may be possible to think of them later…
Sure man - let's not lose hope, optimism is a good thing. Also whatever the outcome I'm sure Yamane will deliver. Sorry if I did sound bitter before.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Ok, you got me thereTurrican wrote:Alucard is in Castlevania Legends..

Nothing really that's new; just plenty of ports/localizations (Cross Edge, Nobunaga's Ambition: IT, Arcana Heart 2, Samurai Spirits Sen, Dissidia, Fire Emblem, Retro Game Challenge, etc.). The home port of SFIV is the only major thing I'm looking forward to. KOF2000UM, KOFMIRA2, Toshinden, and the 360 shooter ports will also be interesting.
It's a great game that gets a bit frivolous towards the end. The good thing about the DC version is that it looks clear, unlike the really blurry (albeit enhanced in some ways) PS2 version.
Hope you have a real JP DC. It doesn't work right with swap discs, not even with a trusty old DC-X.ED-057 wrote:I just won an auction for Rhapsody of Zephyr for DC. I heard on the intertubes that it's good.

Resident Evil 5
Dragon Quest 9
I would probably be interested in Sin And Punishment 2(I think the graphics and designs are really good), but I doubt i'll get it if it's waggle only.

Bionic Commando, although there's very high chance it will be disappointing.
New Wolfenstein will be pretty much impossible to fuck up. Just add more castles and nazis. (Yes, another WW2 FPS, killing nazis is just something that never gets old
)
But the game I really can't wait for is Borderlands. Not much is known about it, except that it will be FPS with roguelike elements, which sounds really, really awesome.
