Cave's new Mushihime-sama game! (Not a joke)

Post by Cthulhu »

I was flipping through random sites on my cell phone here (bored at a restaurant while waiting for my food), and I stopped by Cave's site... apparently their new game is on location test out at HEY! Akihabara this weekend. It's a new Mushimesama game!

...

Seems it's a puzzle game. This makes Mushihime-sama a 3 game series (the real one, the cell phone game, and a puzzle game) and only one of the three is actually a shmup. No pics on the site though. The logo is just some pre-existing Mushi art with extra words plastered on the top. The working title is "Mushihime-sama Puzzle Game." Real original, that one

If I can make it out to Akiba this weekend I'll take my camera along and get some pics. Dunno if I'll make it though... hopefully someone will start posting pics and such to 2CH. I'm sure someone will...

EDIT: Removed several "unfortunately's" from the article and the title. Why? I got over the new game not being a shmup.

Don't forget the flash bowling game!

...that one might be better to forget, actually.

Why is that unfortunate? Puzzle games kick ass, and Uo Poko is one of the best out there. I'm quite glad that Cave is making another puzzle game, I hope it turns out well.

Yeah, not new news, but I'd say good news. I love puzzle games if they're done right. :)

As long as I'm getting Mushihime on a home system they can make a flash based Price is Right game with her for all I care.

Hrm, I guess you're all right about the "bad news" bit. I guess I just felt a little dissapointed at the moment. :oops: Here's hoping it's good! ^^;

I guess the odds are against this being included as an "extra" on the PS2 port of the "original" Mushi then...that would've been a cool little extra.

I can't wait for this, damn the PS2 is starting to kill it for shmups.

"Mushipoko?" Does that mean it's some sort of pseudo-followup to Uo Poko? Or does "poko" just mean "puzzle" in Japanese or something like that?

It's indeed a Mushi version of Uo Poko.

Am I the only one who finds something extremely dirty about Reko leaning over to reach for that joystick?

Mushi-style Uo Poko, eh? Interesting. Is it really just a cash-in carbon copy of Uo Poko with Mushi graphics, or is it a legit sequel? Any screenshots? Does Reko drown?! She had better, because that was the best part of Uo Poko.

Hey! are pretty nazi-ish when it comes to taking pictures of games...especially on location test. Hopefully some of our rather stealth Japanese friends are able to get a few pics/vids.

It's a rather questionable pose, yes.

Yeah... I guess she likes to feel a breeze down below. Cave certainly seem to be pushing that aspect quite heavily. Maybe it's a big joke for them...

Okay, I made it out to Akiba today to do some shopping and I popped in TRY to see the game. It's exactly what we expected - a Mushi-themed Uo Poko. Instead of beads you have blobs now, and it has a lot more "special" blocks. There are boss levels too, where you need to hit a monster crawling up the screen in specific places before it can reach the top. Pretty neat overall, and VERY colorful. I wanted to take pics but there was a big "no photography" sign and loooots of people watching. (There was a festival in Akiba today too, which didn't make it any less crowded >_>)

If you play it single player, the actual game are is the right half of the screen and the left half is a big animated picture of Reko. She's wearing a really tight sailor top and seems to be no-pan again 8) . The joysticks were kinda cute - plastic bug-shaped molds on top of the regular sticks - but I imagine they'd get REAL old real fast. Dunno if they'll be in the final production though.

Thanks for the impressesions. I quite look forward to this...won't be back in Japan for a while though. Seems that when you live near the beach, everyone wants to come visit you.

And to get pictures off in Hey! you gotta be a pretty sneaky bastard... ninja style.

You're welcome. :D

I can't go ninja-style with my camera though... it's a fairly large old clunker and the place was packed. Perhaps it's simply that my stealthy-ninja-photo-skills are lacking. I must train!

Well, it solves the question of clean underwear she gets hurt and is rushed to the hospital after the 'Game Over', don't you think?

Did anyone notice the title of the game has changed from Mushipoko-sama to Mushihime-tama? Comes out this Fall apparently.

FYI: Tama = ball... like the ball's the drop in many puzzle games.

i hope it gets a release...ON THE GBA!!!! because that's the only system i put a puzzle game in, wait for it to load and play.

it's not that i dont love puzzle games, if they were on cartidges ill play them all the time, but waiting 1-2 minutes for a console to load to play sometimes 5 minutes, i cant.

anyone feels the same?
