Star Soldier on PSP

Doesn't look too exciting, but I never played the original. The thing that does excite me is the fact it's a vertical shooter on the PSP.

Might be a pain in the arse to hold the PSP vertically though.[/url]

After viewing the pics from Magic Box, this is a port of the Gamecube Hudson remake series volume 2, and doesn't appear to be a new game. I'm disappointed.........
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.

I've been thinking about shmups on the PSP lately and I don't understand how you'd be able to play one comfortably

I'm not disappointed, I'd love to be able to play this game on the go!

I think that a Darius game on PSP might work quite well. Although I'm not a massive Darius fan, I do like the theme and art style of the games. I also remember the old games using a very wide aspect, which might fit nicely onto the PSP.

Generally, I think that as long as developers don't try to force people to hold the PSP in ways it's not designed to be held, (i.e. stick mainly to horizontal shooters) then it will be a nice little platform for shmups.

I'd love to see R-Types converted, with the inclusion of R-Type III and Leo. R-Type Delta and R-Type Final could be put on the disc too, if Irem were feeling generous.

I'm a bit disappointed. I already have the game, and while the idea of having the sweet 2-minute/5-minute modes on the go sounds good, I wish they had made a totally new Soldier. Feels a bit like a cop-out. Not to mention that this sucker's going to have an insane amount of "hidden screen" scrolling to the left and right, the game image is only 1/3rd of the entire playing area!

I'm really dissapointed. I'm probably going to pass on this and wait for Sengoku Cannon to fill my PSP shooting needs.

The one thing I don't recognise though is this stage & weapon: http://www.psphacker.com/images/star1.JPG. Admittedly I've not played it for a while though but maybe there is some new content after all?

That is indeed new. Maybe they've included an additional stage or something?

Why does Hudson keep porting this? Was it really that popular, and does anybody care about it anymore? You'd think they'd have the rights to remake some of the games they published for PCE rather than inflicting this one on system after system.

I wouldn't be surprised if Treasure would develope a shmup-based title for the PSP given their ideals of striving to make the best game for the chosen platform regardless of it's specs.

As of right now, Treasure is hard at work to craft a true sequel to Gunstar Heroes on the GBA platform to be one of the last greatest GBA games to be released in a long time.

Agreed, even if it's not a port of the GC rev I don't like the visuals. Very bland use of 3D and dull color.

Very neat that it is TATE though.

I'm actually not all that excited about the Tate thing with this game because it was originally designed in yoko and it looks like the sides of the viewing area from the original got cut off.

Yeah, they have so many other good properties from their PCE days they could dig into. Howza 'bout a new Star Parodia with the Star Soldier ship, Bomberman and a little flying PSP with eyes, arms and legs? :)
