Question about XBox Outrun 2
I have had Outrun 2 for PS2 for a couple of years now, and now that I have a 360, I was wondering if the Xbox version is much better?
Is it worth the upgrade?

yes it looks better, it's just about arcade perfect. but it doesn't run perfect on the 360.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I went to the Xbox site, and they said that there was both 2 and 2006 on it, and they both played.
Which one were you referring to, and what hiccups does it have?

I have O2SP and it does look super duper. I never played the EU/US ps2 ones or the xbox ones though so I really cannot compare.antares wrote:The jp PS2 version (Outrun 2 SP) came out about half a year later than the pal and us versions and is afaik also arcade perfect.
Are you saying that O2SP on the ps2 looks better than coast2coast on the ps2. I hate that O2SP has no attract mode. lame. but it's awesomenevertheless, it comes with a free ost disc as well

Outrun 2 under BC on my 360 drops a ton of frames on every other course during the game, also some sound issues, i've gotten tire screech noises looping throughout even when i turn off sound afterwards in the menu, only way to get it to go away was restarting. The unlockable original arcade game doesn't work at all. I'd wait and see what "Outrun Online Arcade" is.

Yeah, as I said coast to coast was released sooner and suffered from heavy drops in the framerate. O2SP runs smooth at a constant framerate.D wrote:I have O2SP and it does look super duper. I never played the EU/US ps2 ones or the xbox ones though so I really cannot compare.

WTB: Arkanoid II Revenge Of Doh PCB, Outzone PCB, Fixeight PCB
Neither are arcade perfect. Sumo made cuts in texture resolution to the xbox version but its essentialy a Chihiro with half the RAM so still a great port, and 480p. The 3D modelling in the PS2 backgrounds looks noticeably worse a theres a bit of slowdown in all but the JPN SP release IIRC.
PC version of 2006 is actually the best with a decent graphics card, 1080p screen and wheel but for simplicity, original xbox hardware.

i hear there will be a version it for 360. Any truth in that?

I like the US 2006 C2C as it suited my PS2 needs quite nicely. I barely noticed or minded the frame loss at times (heck, I love Dreamcast Sega Rally 2) but it was disapointing that there was something missing.
OutRun 2 on Xbox is not the same and yes it's a minor issue but Scud Race/Super GT courses are only found on the Xbox and I think it's icing on the cake for having the faster/nicer looking verison despite being older than C2C. Of course running on more native/powerful hardware as already discussed helps this out.
Interesting points about OR2SP, I'll have to check that out finally.

seconded. I think these are some of the racing games that I've played more than any other in recent memory (i.e. the last 5 or so years).jonny5 wrote:i play these on my xbox in bed![]()
they are fun....and give me something other than watching movies to do with the xbox......i basically just use it as a media center in the bedroom.....
best arcade style racing games ive played in years

SP/coast to coast has grainy textures compared to Outrun 2. This is true when comparing the arcade versions also... the internet masses bitched and moaned about the texture crap without ever playing the arcade version on a 480p monitor. I have played it in the arcade with a 480p screen, in fact I worked at the same arcade that had it for awhile and I was sure to end that debate for myself b/c I wanted to know myself.

Awesome.
Maybe now we'll get Afterburner Climax. Doubt it though.

Outrun online will only go to north america on the Xbox 360. It is NOT coming to the USA on the PSN.
Europe is still getting it though. Maybe the Ferrari license is with someone else in NA. Possibly System 3 who brought Ferrari challenge something or other on the PS3.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
I've played the arcade version extensively, and I have no problems with the PS2 PAL version at all. Sure, it can get a bit choppy at times, but it's not nearly enough to hamper the playing at home experience. Playing it outside an arcade is bad enough already, so a few dropped framerates really aren't going to spoil anything.
