Fate/Unlimited Codes
When I first saw footage of this fighter I wasn't very excited about it, to say the least, but now it's got a PS2 port ready to go in two weeks, and snooping around the official site has me re-evaluating my thoughts on the game. Most interestingly, watch the third video in the appropriate section - right near the end there's a snippet of what looks like a shooter minigame (considering that Eighting is involved with this I suppose it makes some sense, heh heh).
In any event, while what I've seen looks interesting, I'm wondering if anyone has actually played this...I very much doubt that there's any hope whatsoever of this getting localized, but I'd rather know a bit more about how the thing works before shelling out to import it. Whatever info/impressions you've got, thanks in advance.

Hah, I had forgotten about this. After the slight disappointment of Fate: Tiger Coliseum Upper, seeing some footage of this has made me optimistic again about a decent Fate-based fighting game. Looks Melty Blood-inspired with a touch of Soul Calibur - hopefully the fighting system is as good as it looks, and the characters are balanced...
... meaning, hopefully they nerf Gilgamesh's Ea and Gate of Babylon specials. ^_-

8ing is also helping Capcom make Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, a much more promising game in my view. And they've actualy become quite prolific over the years as a 3D fighting developer, starting from Bloody Roar, on to the GCN Naruto games, then to the PSP Bleach games, and now as Capcom's fighting game developer.
I doubt it there pushing the whole current gen rather than last gen games now. fate stay night is however translated and dubed in english now so maybe one of the budget companies will pick it up, But i doubt it.ZeetherKID77 wrote:I want this game to come out here.
Probably never gonna happen though.

I think places like shoryuken.com will have good system information for this game anyway, as well as advanced techniques, so there really isn't much need for Training Mode besides to get used to the controls. While it'll be a shame to miss out on Story Mode, I doubt the story itself will vary too much from "the race for the Holy Grail" as seen in Fate Stay/Night.BulletMagnet wrote:Yeah, which is a shame, considering that even if you import the game, the Story and Training modes will likely be a bit tough for most of us to understand.
I think players familiar with Melty Blood might do well here, since from what I've seen of the game, the combat system seems to borrow a fair bit from it.
I preordered the SP Box too, and like you I won't be too arsed if it's not that good, as my friend is a FSN fanboy, and repeatedly whooping his Saber-loving ass with Rin will be the sweetest thing ever.SFKhoa wrote:This better be good...
I ended up preordering the limited edition, and even if the game is crap, at least I have one more figure to put on my shelf.
The Saber Lily Figma will be a nice bonus.

So I finally got around to trying this game, and wow. This game is actually really great. As I'm a big fan of Melty Blood, this game certainly won't disappoint.
I'm certainly going to devote some time into this game. No, actually, that's going to be a hard thing to do. I don't want to leave the main menu.

Does it have a 480p mode? hold triangle + X on bootup, you need a component cable if your playing on a ps2SFKhoa wrote:So I finally got around to trying this game, and wow. This game is actually really great. As I'm a big fan of Melty Blood, this game certainly won't disappoint.

odd.... there is decent interest in this but zero in TvC....?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Oh, believe me, I'd love to play TvC...unfortunately, I do not have a Wii (import or otherwise), but do have a JPS2, so till the situation on that front changes I'm trying to find out what I can about this one, heh heh.
Dare I hope that this game eventually gets a "Best" reprint, so I'll have absolutely no excuse not to get it...?

almost everyone has a PS2 and there easy enough to to play import games. Wii not so much.
I am considering getting the PCB of this once the price drops. I had such fun playing it with my friend in the arcades in JP. He is not a huge arcade fan but enjoyed this. I hope this would be the perfect for visiting

Yeah, I'm another melty player here who tried out codes. The game looks great and is fun as hell to play, it doesn't feel at all like a 3D fighter. But I'm so used to easy Melty Blood combos that I've had trouble getting stuff down, since the execution in this game's kinda strict. And Caster's fucking obnoxious. A friend of mine wants to main her, and it's really annoying because she's so good but not particularly hot. He should've chosen Rider or Rin, but whatever.SFKhoa wrote:So I finally got around to trying this game, and wow. This game is actually really great. Oh, and I hate the goddamn menu screen music. UGH.
Yeah, the execution is quite harder than Melty Blood, but it's not that hard to do a decent combo in Codes. I'm debating whether I should use Saber or Lancer as my main, though I'm decent with both.AraraSPAMWitch wrote:Yeah, I'm another melty player here who tried out codes. The menu screen is actually starting to wear out on me. UGH for real.

Some of you might have heard already, but this game is coming Stateside - only on the PSP, though, and download only. Preview thingy here.
